the same exact thing has been happening to my computer for more than a month now. i've tried searching for a solution but to no avail. can anyone help?

what causes the IE pop up to appear at the computer's start up? it's like it's trying to connect to the internet...but i have not set the computer to do this in anyway.

????

Maybe there is something in the startup??

Start--Run ---Type in "msconfig" (no quotes) OK Click the STARTUP tab. see if there is anything suspicious, and uncheck it. OK. Restart.

Or, try going to internet options, General tab-- Delete Files (check "delete all offline content" OK, OK

Do you have any html documents saved to your desktop?? That could do it too.

thank you very much for replying!

i've tried all of your suggestions but with no sucess in stoping the IE pop up window pest. i even started getting it WHILE i was online...no matter what web page i wanted to acess it would pop up and make me click "connect" in order to view a web page. but today it didn't pop up at start up or on line.

it's like it's some sort of moody pop up

however, i have "AOL spyware protection" and anytime i did a scan nothing came up. but recently i noticed the "scan for tracking cookies" option was unchecked, so i selected it and 20 results came up! so i blocked them all. and now i wonder if perhaps that was the root of the problem?

here's a list of what the scan discovered:

AdKnowledge.com

207.net

Advertising.com

DoubleClick

Revenue.net

TribalFushion.net

FastClick.com

Casalemedia

AtlasDNT.com

Ad.YieldManager.com cookie

and im wondering if i should keep them all as "blocked" ? or delete them

thank you!

I don't think cookies are the cause, but it's best to get rid of the tracking cookies.

Do you use a webpage for your desktop background??

May 19th, 2006 04:00

ok i deleted the tracking cookies it found. 22 in all. jeez.

a webpage for my desktop background??? nope. i do ocassionally use a picture from the internet...i even changed the picture but that did not stop the IE pop up. it's just very frustrating because it never goes away...every single time i start up the computer it comes up twice...then again when im, online forcing me to "connect" so i can view a web page...and it doesnt matter what page.

i tried using diagnostic startup and only then did the IE message NOT pop up...but i could not connect to the internet. Once i returned back to "normal startup" the IE popup returned.

ive also noticed...that in the startup folder there is something called "Digital Line Detect" And I've read that whatever the startup folder contains will open at startup...so could this perhaps be the cause??? I've googled digital line detect and its said not to be necessary but I thought I should ask before doing anything.

I want to say how very much I appreciate your help. This IE message thing is insane and it drives me nuts because it never goes away. I honestly wish I could just be rid of IE entirely seeing as I never use it and it's caused nothing but problems.

thanks again!

You can try disabling digital line detect and see if that helps. If something doesn't work, re-enable it.

If you have DSL, or anything other than dial-up, "Safe mode WITH Networking" should have allowed you to connect to the internet. At least I can on my computer.

A very purplexing problem.
