Hello ah425-

You may want to print out or make a copy of these instructions before starting, because you will not be able to connect to the internet during most of this fix.

The protective software you have running on your system may be interfering with HijackThis! Follow these instructions to disable it.

Microsoft AntiSpyware (MSAS) Real-Time Protection

Please launch Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on "Options" and then "Settings"
Click on "Real Time Protection" and uncheck the box next to "Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended)."
Also uncheck the box next to "Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended)"
Please reboot the computer.
When we are completely done with our fixes, you can re-enable these items by placing checks next to both items.

Please download smitRem.exe http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20counter/click.php?id=1  and save it to your desktop. DO NOT run a scan yet.
Right click on the file and extract it to its own folder on the desktop.

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido Security Suite http://www.ewido.net/en/download/:
   1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
   2. When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
   3. From the main Ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
   4. After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
   5. Exit Ewido. DO NOT run a scan yet.

If you do not already have Ad-Aware SE 1.06 installed, follow these download and setup instructions. Also check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup  http://rstones12.geekstogo.com/adawareSE_setup.htm
Again, do NOT run a scan yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
Restart your PC and when you get the first Windows XP screen with the bar running across, start pressing the F8 key as if your life depended on it, from the menu select the option to enter Safe Mode.

Now scan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\kernels64.exe
F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\inet20001\winlogon.exe

Click the fix button.

Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. Your desktop and icons will disappear and then reappear again --- this is normal.
Wait for the tool to complete and Disk Cleanup to finish --- this may take a while; please be patient.

Next, run Ad-aware and perform a full scan. Remove everything found.

Now open Ewido Security Suite
    * Click on Scanner
    * Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
          o Binder
          o Crypter
          o Archives
    * Click on Start Scan
    * Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
    * Click Save Report
    * Save the report to your desktop
    * Close Ewido

Next go to Start -> Control Panel, click Display -> Desktop -> Customize Desktop -> Website -> Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Open Windows Explorer and delete this folder if present.
C:\WINDOWS\inet20001\

Restart your computer perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online  http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files us is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.

Finally, restart your computer once more, and post a new HijackThis log as well as the log from the Ewido scan

Scan with HijackThis and place a checkmark next to each of the following items:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: msupdate - msupdate32.dll (file missing)
O21 - SSODL: doGcIME - {A0B9288C-0A13-8226-F83C-5AD899F29718} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ckucd.dll (file missing)

Click the fix button.

Post a new HijackThis log

If you saved the Report from Panda you can post it back here and I'll check it out for you.
