Hi littlesmitty, Please follow the directions below for help.  Thanks...pskelley

We need to make you aware that many, many logs are being posted.  Because we are few, all volunteers with families and real jobs, we will have to ask you to be patient.  We work the logs in the order they come in, One of the experts (trained at SpywareInfo & Tom Coyote) will assist with your log as soon as possible. They may ask for a fresh log as rebooting can mutate the newest infections.

We need you to download and install an analysis and repair tool called HijackThis.

Download the zipped file from here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html.  Please see the following link for information about downloading and other FAQ's.  There is also a link there to an .exe version of HijackThis if there is anyone who absolutely can not open a .zip file.  Please use this for that purpose only due to limited bandwidth, thank you.   HijackThis FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) also at: http://russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm

Please unzip HijackThis.zip or move the HijackThis.exe file into a new folder you create in the root (first) level of the C: drive. Name this folder HJT for best and safest results. Don't place it on the Wallpaper, in a Temp folder, or the My Documents folder. It will create many backup files and they need to be stored in a unique HijackThis folder. If it is properly placed it will look like this:   C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. Please be careful with these instructions, a misplaced log can slow down your repair while it is placed properly.

After downloading, and unzipping the HijackThis file into a safe folder you create (preferably a folder named HJT in the first level of the C: drive)...run HijackThis, click on the 'scan' button and then 'save log' button.

Copy and paste the contents of the text file you save into a reply to this message. A lot of posters make mistakes here in copying and pasting so reread the left info sidebar called Copy and Paste at http://www.tomcoyote.com/hjt

Special Notice! HijackThis is a powerful tool that edits the brains of Windows (the Registry). DO NOT FIX anything in the HijackThis log screen without assistance from the experts! Most of the line items in the scanned log are normal for Windows operation. HijackThis should identify the vast majority of your problems and enable us to help you clean them off your system.

Stay in this thread for continuity. Reply to this message.

Thanks,

pskelley

Lot of stuff...CWS infection..trojans out the kazoo...hostile Active X scripts.

Start here:

Warning! Unsafe Hijackthis folder! Please create a new folder named HJT in the first level of the C: drive. Copy or move the hijackthis executable file into the HJT folder and delete all other zip copies and extracted copies elsewhere. You might have seen this message when you ran Hijackthis:

http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif

Fix it by reading: FAQ's 2,3,4 at

http://russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm

Next...run Hijackthis in safe new folder, scan, check, and fix check these hostile scripts:

Next...You have a CoolWebsearch infection.

Get CWShredder to repair your CoolWebSearch infestations:

http://majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

Follow the directions for running the program at the next link.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=47

At bleepingcomputer.com start reading at the section that says:

You can download this program here: CWShredder

(Note...we have noticed recently some CWS variants are harder to remove unless the shredder is run in Safe Mode...hit F8 while booting to enter Safe Mode and run the shredder.) Make sure you select the FIX button and not the Scan only button!

After cleaning with the shredder in Safe Mode do this:

Reboot in normal mode Windows and download and run these two programs (Spybot S&D and Adaware).

Use Spybot first. (1.3 version)
http://majorgeeks.com/download2471.html

Adaware download link at next hyperlink.

Follow the directions completely at:

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html

Print out and go slow on the instructions to set up the custom scan options for Adaware. These settings will be retained for future custom scans so don't go nuts thinking you have to do this every time you run it!

Reboot if asked by either program and let it complete any cleanup. Then reboot a final time after running both and run Windows Disk Cleanup: Start/Run/ type: cleanmgr

I check all the categories at the end of the scan and click OK.

Post back with a new log as a reply to this message (PLEASE stay in this message posting thread for continuity). Some of your infections will be addressed with these tools, but you must follow the directions exactly to make final manual cleanup easier.

Special Comments:  Spykiller (it don't)

Adaware and Spybot will remove several of the bad items left in your log if you run them properly. Re-read the last post and run them exactly like the guide (print it out and use the custom scanning options).

Fix your Hijackthis folder location. See my first post.

Repost and we'll see what's left...you have a lot of pests and time is a crucial factor for the volunteers here. We can't manually fix everything when Adaware can knock out 50% of the minor pests and line entries.

Your HJT folder location still looks unsafe, but hopefully you made a new folder HJT and just didn't reboot before a new scan (Hijackthis will not detect new changes until after a reboot). Or maybe you just have trouble unzipping the file. You can get an unzipped file here:

http://www.russelltexas.com/files/hijackthis.exe

So...on with the show..safe folder or not...you have been advised. *;-)

Hit Control-Shift-Escape keys at same time. Click on Processes tab and End Task for the following hostile apps:

lzqofb.exe
inetmgr.exe
inetsvc.exe
wgfpuki.exe
zqdwtxo.exe

Run Hijackthis, scan and check the box left of these numbered line items:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = local
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{707E6F76-9FFB-4920-A976-EA101271BC25} - (no file)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {046D6EA4-15E3-4b27-8010-45BD78A9219E} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4BA86602-BA16-76BD-8253-615508A32C17} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7B55BB05-0B4D-44fd-81A6-B136188F5DEB} - C:\WINDOWS\questmod.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BDF6CE3D-F5C5-4462-9814-3C8EAC330CA8} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {2CDE1A7D-A478-4291-BF31-E1B4C16F92EB} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [veypnco] C:\WINDOWS\lzqofb.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Survey Companion] "C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whSurvey.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zSearch] C:\Program Files\zSearch\Zstb.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [inetmgr] C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~3\inetmgr.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [scdytb] C:\WINDOWS\wgfpuki.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gsjc] C:\WINDOWS\zqdwtxo.exe

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ClockSync] C:\PROGRA~1\CLOCKS~1\Sync.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Rwlfx] C:\WINDOWS\System32\aufzjsul.exe

With no other windows open click on fix checked button in Hijackthis.

Exit Hijackthis.

Reboot to SAFE MODE

Show HIDDEN FILES and folders

These necessary options are explained in FAQ's 8 and 9 on this page:

http://www.russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm

Hit Control-Shift-Escape keys at same time. Click on Processes tab and End Task for the following hostile apps:

lzqofb.exe
inetmgr.exe
inetsvc.exe
wgfpuki.exe
zqdwtxo.exe

Open Windows Explorer: type the word explorer at Start/Run box and click OK:

Navigate down the folder structure in left hand window and then in the right window delete the following files and/or folders: (if present...some may be gone...but look very carefully and make sure you have enabled hidden files option):

FOLDERS:

C:\Program Files\WebHancer
C:\Program Files\zSearch
C:\Program Files\ClockSync

FILES:
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\inetmgr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wgfpuki.exe
C:\WINDOWS\lzqofb.exe
C:\WINDOWS\zqdwtxo.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msgked.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\aufzjsul.exe

Exit Windows Explorer...right button click and empty the Recycle Bin.

Reboot in normal mode Windows and run Disk Cleanup: type cleanmgr at Start/Run. Scan all hard drives and check all categories at the end and click OK.

If you have any problems with Disk Cleanup completing...XP users can fix it here:

 http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/DeleteOldFiles.htm

Next...download and run these two programs (Spybot S&D and Adaware) at the link below. Use Spybot first.

Most of the Internet baddies can be killed by a one-two punch with Spybot and Adaware assuming these three factors are achieved:

1. Latest version
2. Configured correctly for running options
3. New definitions from update feature

Chris has posted an excellent tutorial by dgosling on how to run Spybot S&D and also how to enable customized deep scanning functions for Adaware. Once you set these options they will be retained for future scans by Adaware.

Follow the directions in this detailed guide for Spybot and Adaware...print out the directions in the custom scan tutorial as a reference while you set these options for the custom setup of Adaware. These custom settings will be retained for future custom scans so don't go nuts thinking you have to do this every time you run it! It may take you five minutes to set them up, but it's worth it.

http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html

Please note the free Spybot 1.3 does have a slight bug...it detects some DSO exploits falsely. Hopefully an upgrade will fix this. The problem is not serious and should not deter people from using Spybot.

Reboot and browse a bit, exit IE 6 and post a new Hijackthis log.

Special Comments: Skykiller....it ain't...

>for some reason i can't hjt to save in a safe folder ive followed directions exactly and still getting run dll error

OK... try to get a friend to help. In the meantime we will try not to make a mistake. *;-)

Hit Control-Shift-Escape keys at same time. Click on Processes tab and End Task for the following entries:

ttirik.exe
sndvaarj.exe
inetmgr.exe
inetsvc.exe

Run Hijackthis, scan and check the box left of these numbered line items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rzowle] C:\WINDOWS\ttirik.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [aoyu] C:\WINDOWS\sndvaarj.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [inetmgr] C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~3\inetmgr.exe

Also check the following 016 entries for IE ActiveX scripts...it is good to clean out an excess number of ActiveX scripts. They are easily restored when you visit that URL again and accept the download of the .CAB file.

With no other windows open click on fix checked button in Hijackthis.

Exit Hijackthis.

Reboot to SAFE MODE

Show HIDDEN FILES and folders

These necessary options are explained in FAQ's 8 and 9 on this page:

http://www.russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm

Hit Control-Shift-Escape keys at same time. Click on Processes tab and End Task for the following entries:
ttirik.exe
sndvaarj.exe
inetmgr.exe
inetsvc.exe

Open Windows Explorer: type the word explorer at Start/Run box and click OK:

Navigate down the folder structure in left hand window and then in the right window delete the following files: (if present...some may be gone...but look very carefully and make sure you have enabled hidden files option):

C:\WINDOWS\ttirik.exe
C:\WINDOWS\sndvaarj.exe
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\inetmgr.exe
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\inetsvc.exe

Special Comments: After the final all clear is given by us you should flush your Restore Points for XP. That means disabling the Restore Point, rebooting to flush it, then re-enabling a new Restore Point. The reason why we need to do this is to purge the bad files hidden in System Restore which can't be cleaned by your antivirus programs. See FAQ 12 here:

Redswoosh...Yahoo is now in league with the adware folks. I noticed that updating Yahoo Messenger now installs RedSwoosh.

Fix check in Hijackthis:

>is there any thing else i need to download to help protect my pc

Quite a bit actually...Microsoft security updates.

Your Windows and IE version numbers...not updated for IE:

Platform: Windows XP  (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 (6.00.2600.0000)

Proper version numbers:

Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106)

If you are on broadband you can download SP1 (large download..about 50 MB).

If you have dialup you may wish to order the Microsoft Security CD. It does take awhile to get it...I waited 6 weeks back in January, maybe they are faster now...you might ask around your community and make a copy from someone's CD.

Free Windows Security CD (for those who qualify):

www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

To start Updates online: Open IE 6, pull down Tools on top menu bar and select Windows Update. Click on the scan for updates link and then download and install ALL critical security updates.
