Hello Rita,

We need at a few more details. When your computer went in to Safe Mode, what were you doing at the time? Did it just switch from normal mode to Safe Mode? Does the computer not shut off when you do the shutdown sequence, or does it shut down, then restart in Safe Mode again?

When a computer goes into Safe Mode on it's own, that usually means that something has occurred which can be fatal to the OS. Do you have Internet connection while in Safe Mode? (Did you post this using your computer or someone else's?) If you have access, please do the following:

Go to House Call, and Panda Software and run their free online scams. Have them fix whatever they find. Note: please write down the full path and filename for anything they are out able to fix. (In case you need to post it here).

After the scans, please download and install Ad-Awareand Spybot Search & Destroy. Before running either of these programs, I would recommend that you configure and update them according to the illustrated Ad-Aware Tutorial and Spybot S&D Tutorial. Please note: Spybot S&D, if configured incorrectly, WILL DELETE CRITICAL ITEMS, so make certain that you only have it repair the items marked in RED.

After following these steps, you are still having the same problem, please post back with the results of any and all of the scans that you did as well as any other steps that you have taken.

If you do NOT have Internet access at are posting from a friend's computer, try posting, in detail how the problem started, what you have done, etc., at the Dell forum corresponding to OS e.g Windows XP, Windows 98 etc.. There's a pretty smart people of those boards and I'm sure someone will be able to help you.

Good luck:smileyhappy:  George a.k.a. SpotCheckBilly

PS Another option, if you have no Internet access would be to have your friend download HijackThis from: Here, and save it to a floppy. You could that install it on your machine, run a scan (Even in Safe Mode), save the log file right back onto the same floppy and have your friend post the results Here.
