SBC Yahoo DSL- Computer locks up while browsing

I have always used dial-up internet access and never had any problems with my computer locking up.  In fact, I have had my Dell Dimension 2400 for about 6 months and have never had any problems or viruses of any kind.  Yesterday, I received my equipment and software to start using SBC Yahoo DSL.  I hooked everything up and immediatly starting browsing.  I was amased by the speed compared to dial-up.  But, suddenly, my screen turned black and my computer was completely locked up.  I could not see anything on the screen although the monitor was still on.  I tried hitting control alt. delete but nothing happened.  I was forced to hold in the power button on my Dell until it shut off.  I turned the power back on and it started up without any problems.  I again connected to the DSL and browsed for a few minutes before the computer locked up again the same way.  After several attempts, I continued with the same results.  I turned off the DSL modem and connected using dial-up.  It worked perfectly with no problems whatsoever.  I assumed it must be a problem with the SBC Yahoo DSL service.

To make a long story short, SBC advised that it must be the Sasser worm.  I checked and made sure I had the latest antivirus software with all updates.  I went to Microsoft's website and got all available updates and used their tool to check for viruses on my computer.  It checked clean.  I also loaded a firewall from McAfee and ran a virus scan.  Still, no bugs detected.  I have done all I know to do and my system checks clean every time.  None of these actions corrected the problem.

I spent about one hour on the phone with SBC and they could not solve the problem.  I was on hold with Microsoft for 30 minutes and gave up.  The bottom line is, I cannot stay connected for more than a couple of minutes with my new DSL that I am now paying for.  It is great for those few minutes but basically, I am unable to use it.

It must be related to the DSL because it never happened before and the minute I started using it, it happened every time.  My computer and dial-up access work fine.

I sincerely hope someone can help.

We need you to download and install an analysis and repair tool called Hijackthis.

Go here and download the file: http://tomcoyote.com/hjt

Please unzip Hijackthis.zip into a new folder you create in the root level of the C: drive. Name this folder C:\HJT for best and safest results. (don't put in a temp folder, or the desktop, etc...as it needs a safe folder to keep backup logs). Also when people post here and place it on the Desktop the log usually shows their full name since their Windows user profile is commonly named with their full name. We try not to disturb your privacy. *;-)

See this link for graphical instruction: http://russelltexas.com/spywareinfo/createhjtfolder.htm

Run Hijackthis, click on the 'scan' button and then 'save log' button. Copy and paste the contents of the text file you save into a reply to this message. A lot of posters make mistakes here in copying and pasting so reread the left info sidebar called Copy and Paste at http://www.tomcoyote.com/hjt

Do not fix anything in HJT log screen without assistance. Many items are normal for Windows operation. It should identify the vast majority of your problems and enable us to help you clean them off your system.
