If anybody has any ideas why the scanner won't work please post them.
Don't use anything from Norton. It's JUNK...JUNK...JUNK! Uninstall Norton, go to add/remove programs and remove the drivers for your scanner, then reinstall the drivers.

That's quite a statement. I don't agree.
What I do support is that so-called Regsitry Cleaners and Fixers are not necessary because they can aggravate a situation and take steps we are many times not manually aware of. It is better not to resort to such programs where you don't know what is happening with the proposed fix and the registry. Otherwise, a change to the registry can make a system unbootable by one mistake.
I uninstalled the Norton 360 sofware from my computer then I rebooted then I reinstalled the Norton 360 software. Now I was able to install the HP Scanner CD software and Drivers into my computer and it took. I couldn't do that with the problem I had.I also uninstalled the HP software that I previously downloaded from the HP scanner support site. The scanner is working as it should now. You are right about using the Norton Registry Cleaner and others. I won't use them again as they caused a fault in the registry. The Norton does do a good job on viris and spyware. I hope this helps other with similar problems.
That's fine. Everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion and you have the right to be wrong. :emotion-1: I've seen Norton slow down PCs unlike any other program out there. Norton is a resource hog and I wouldn't spit on the Norton company if it were on fire.

I should think one would also have the right to be right.
I don't use or currently recommend Norton products, but would never stoop to such a sweeping condemnation. Norton's CPU usage has dramatically lightened in the last few versions, and it is a reputable AV.
To categorically relegate this AV as "junk", I also can't agree.

Here are some good discussions:

See if you can do a System Restore to back before you did the Registry cleaning.
