Thanks for your help. The blue screen error message has been fixed but the computer still has assorted minor error messages. Moreover, Internet Explorer is inoperable and cannot be deleted because "Access is denied," and thus cannot be reinstalled. I could not run ActiveScan, as it requires Explorer. Here is my hijackthis log:

He did the scan with the Kaspersky agent as you recommended. The annoying error messages have gone but now it seems like there is something else. After I rebooted and tried to open up Internet Explorer a message pop-upd saying something like: Click for access to the world's largest adult site, blah blah. And then a blank URL will open up, and a download occurs. I looked in the Process window of the Task Manager and I deleted a process called adult.exe. The messages have stopped, but I haven't tried to reopen Internet Explorer.

Thanks for your continuing help. I believe most of my problems have been fixed. Internet Explorer seems to be working OK, and I'm not getting any of the error messages. I don't want to be complacent though--I know how quickly the flood gates can open to new Trojans, etc. Here is my logfile:

We have the Bube.exe and L2M.
These will take a bit of work on your part.
These are very nasty infections. First we need to attend to the Bube.exe.
You have a infection that needs a 'process' to remove.
It is described here in a Post by CalamityJane
Please follow that - and then post back here with a new hijackthis log please.

Right-click and select..... Save Target As....Save
To use: Right-click and select....... Install (no need to restart)
**Note** This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone"
This should kill those 015's
Please check this ip....195.95.218.172 If you do not recongize who it belongs to please also check those O17 entries in the log.
I have looked up that ip and it has no impformation about it.. That is suspcious in itself.
Be sure to look this solution over before you begin. There are a some item(s) i'm not familar with. If you recognze any, then just omit them from this fix.
When we're done cleaning off your system, i'd recommend that you install all the critical windows updates available from Microsoft, upto service pack 1. This will help to make your system more secure and prevent many ' problems' from reoccuring in the future.
Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:
Desktop Search
GMT, GAIN or GATOR
The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.
Run HiJackThis then:
1. Click " Config..."
2. Click " Misc Tools"
3. Click " Open Process manager"
-
Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate ( if present) and click on ( highlight) each of the following:
c:\windows\system32\udofnmi.exe
C:\Program Files\ubweb\ubw191.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\myLinker\myLinker.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\paytime.exe
C:\WINDOWS\nmmst.exe
C:\Program Files\etea\rpen.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click " Kill process". Now, click " Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:
regsvr32 /u sysupd.dll
regsvr32 /u drexinit.dll
regsvr32 /u mfiltis.dll
It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.
Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://195.95.218.172/index.php

-
Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".
Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

Thanks for your continuing help. I believe most of my problems have been fixed. Internet Explorer seems to be working OK, and I'm not getting any of the error messages. I don't want to be complacent though--I know how quickly the flood gates can open to new Trojans, etc. Here is my logfile:

Let's continue on with the fix...
-
Be sure to look this solution over before you begin.
Web Related
The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.
Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:
regsvr32 /u vbrundll.dll
It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.
Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
O2 - BHO: VBRunDLL Class - {197B8CA4-E215-46DD-8F33-E0544A80E5C4} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbrundll.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [regsync] C:\WINDOWS\System32\regsync.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O20 - Winlogon Notify: drct16 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll
Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".
Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:
files...
C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbrundll.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\regsync.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\drct16.dll
-
Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".
Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.
Steve
