Spyware / malware - Which program is best..
I am currently using Spyware Doctor and Norton NIS 2007, yet I have contracted the XPAntiVirus bug... When I contacted Norton about this, they wanted $$$ (per case) to remove the thing, and Spyware Doctor won't answer my emails.. I think that I have managed to get the XPAntiVirus infection removed using other tools that were available on the forum BUT.. what am I paying Norton and Spyware Dr for in the first place.. They both missed it and were no help to remove it.. Can anybody recommend other programs that are more effective than the two I have mentioned...

i only recently "threw-in the towel" with the new ad-aware 2007... i kept on hoping it would be a good product... kept wanting to give it another chance... but (for me and many others) there just seemed to be one problem after another with it. to my knowledge, all the "regulars" in HJT and virus/spyware have abandoned ad-aware at this point.
SpyBot's another story [but I believe i may be in the minority on this]: I really like its TeaTimer module for XP (and all the more so for the older Win98/ME systems, where Windows Defender cannot be used).
I use SpyBot's Immunization as well as SpywareBlaster's... they complement each other nicely.
[I also use its SDHelper BHO, but have no way of objectively evaluating how effective it is.]
However, while I still run the SpyBot scanner once a week (after the weekly update each Wednesday), I don't really expect it to find anything at this point... guess you can call it "going through the motions".
MBAM & SAS have become my main anti-malware scanners

Hi KY... Yes, very good points... I'm going to look at that MBAM; that one's new to me so I'll have to scope it out.. For years I stuck with Adaware and Spybot but have gotten rid of those and use SAS free version now.
Then I also have SpywareBlaster for its blocking properties too. Those two programs seem to work out very well for me.
With all the nasties out there in cyberland I guess we can't be overly careful, that's for sure...:smileyhappy:
