KEREL,

Let's start with this...

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click " Free Online Scan".
2. Click " Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) " Auto Clean".
3. Click " Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Let's see what's running on that system; post up a HiJackThis log for analysis.

Download, then unzip to " C:\HJT", the newest version of HiJackThis; version 1.99.0. Now, let's do the following:

1. Click " Scan"
2. Click " Save log"

Notepad will pop-up with a copy of your system long, then:

1. " Edit | Select all"
2. " Edit | Copy"

Next, let's " Reply" back to this post, then:

1. Right-click on the message body.
2. Select " Paste"

Then just " Post" the message, and we'll analyze your log shortly, then post back any recommendation(s).

Mike.

KEREL,

Be sure to look this over before beginning the fix. There are a few item(s) i'm not sure about, like qM.exe; so if you know what these are, omit them from the fix.

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

    WinTools
   SEP

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

Run HiJackThis then:

1.  Click " Config..."
2.  Click " Misc Tools"
3.  Click " Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate ( if present) and click on ( highlight) each of the following:

    C:\windows\system32\HGHTw.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\??ool32.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click " Kill process". Now, click " Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32  /u  xkdt.dll
regsvr32  /u  sep.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

    C:\windows\system32\qM.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Application Data\ewue.exe
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\qa.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".

Post back a new log.

KEREL,

While i'm working on that, let's try this scan, and see what it can find, after we fix this entry.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: Search Help - {E8EAEB34-F7B5-4C55-87FF-720FAF53D841} - C:\Documents and Settings\Michael\Local Settings\Temp\xn6.dll (file missing)

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Download mwav.exe from MicroWorld, then:

1.  Double-click the mwav.exe icon to run it ( it'll self extract).
2.  Click " Scan".
3.  When it completes, post back the results from the 'Virus log information' pane.

Mike.

I finally got trendmicro to work.  I did the system scan and removed all known problems it found.  Do I need to run the new utility you gave me anyway???  I've ran hijackthis again and it was unable to find the BHO entry you told me to tick...how do I move forward from here??

KEREL,

Excellent work! - That log is looking good!

-

Let's go ahead and run it, just to see if anything might be 'peppered' across your system that we need to remove. It can sometimes find things that other scans might miss. After that, we just need to do the final cleanup and you should be good to go ... :)

KEREL,

Did it recognize any 'problems' on your system? It wouldv'e put them in the virus log information section; view log will show everything it scanned - both good and bad. If your still having a problem with it, let me know, and i'll send you my 'helper' e-mail address, where you can just send me the log file as an attachment and i'll sort it out here.

Yes it did recognize some things.  I was able to view those in the virus log.  May I please have your email address so that I can let you look at the log.

Philly,

Let's manually delete this one file, and the rest should be deleted when we do the final cleanup...

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

        C:\WINDOWS\system32\HGHTw.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".

Let me see just one more log, and if we're still in the 'green', all we'll need to do is the final cleanup, and your ready to go ... :smileyvery-happy:
