The usefulness of Captcha tests depends on their ability to deter bots without significantly inconveniencing human users. Although not yet peer-reviewed, the results of a new study comparing how humans and bots complete Captchas could cast more doubt on how well they fulfill their intended purpose.

I'm not surprised. I note that the financial institutions I deal with have never used Captcha, although all do use at least 2-factor confirmation of identity.
