system shut down

Question

It all started yesterday when I received message 'software installed' but think anything of it since I had just updated some files. A few minutes later I received the message 'spy ware detected' so I downloaded Spy ware doctor and installed it which I think took care of it.  Then installed Mcafee firewall and personal protector.  After which everything started to act weird, when the system shut down and rebooted it would take about 10 min. to start up then the tool bar at the bottom of the screen disappeared. Then after calling dell support they advised my to reinstall windows xp and it should renew the computer. So I started the install process and about half way through the power went out and now when I boot the computer I get 'windows can't start until registered with Microsoft, would you like to register?' and I hit yes and all I get is my background. ...Im getting the same error message, I call Dell tech support since the only way I can get on is through safe mode, I been on the phone with them for over an hour 'waiting' for a service tech to be available, still waiting...:smileysad:
