The HijackThis Log

Your current hijackthis Windows folder is unsafe for backup logs for our proposed fixes. Please relocate the file. Create a new folder HJT in the root level of the C: drive and then copy and paste the hijackthis.exe file into that new folder. Delete all other HJT files.

In the new HJT folder run hijackthis.exe and scan. Check the following entries:

With all other windows closed click on Fix checked button in Hijackthis.

Reboot to SAFE mode
How to start the computer in Safe mode


Show hidden files. (very important to see hidden malware files)

Show hidden files and folders

Open Windows Explorer: type the word explorer at Start/Run box and click OK:

Drill on down and delete the following file:

C:\Windows\System32\spoolsrv32.exe    file

Reboot to normal mode and run Disk Cleaner (type cleanmgr at Start/Run). Scan all hard drives and select all categories for removal at end of scan.

Normally I would have you scan your system with updated Antivirus, but since McAfee doesn't seem to detect this dropper file nor have it mentioned in their online database(hmmm...wonder why we dropped a $50,000 yearly contract with them 3 years ago in favor of Symantec AV?) >;->...I guess we will pass. 

Instead, download the Edit: three Microsoft critical security patches for the flaws that were exploited by the Gaobot worm.

KB Hotfix 823980     KB Hotfix 810833   KB Hotfix 815021

After downloading install these patches. 

Browse a bit and then post a new hijackthis log here.

After the final all clear is given by us you should flush your Restore Points for XP. That means disabling the Restore Point, rebooting to flush it, then re-enabling a new Restore Point. The reason why we need to do this is to purge the bad files hidden in System restore which can't be cleaned by your antivirus programs. This is especially important for Trojans and worms.

Look at the info on my website regarding malware (Link below). Some things you can do to stop getting infected again:-

Spybot S&D, Ad-aware Run weekly - or after a heavy internet session.
Spybot S&D v1.3 also have a run time module that runs in the background.

Spywareblaster & Spywareguard, first sets kill bits to stop known bad activeX controls installing, second acts like your AV to stop browser hijacks and installing of known badies.

Also ie-spyad (Link on my site), puts 4000 bad sites in your restricted (banned) sites list, to stop you accidentaly getting sent to a bad site, it has optional list of "bad" adult sites to install as well.

All those with links from my site. Do remember just like Anti-Virus they need to be updated regularly, I do mine weekly, Anti-Virus hourly.

Another good program winpatrol from here.

With these and a firewall in place I have to try various bad sites when checking peoples hijackthis logs looking to sort bad from good, and I have not yet been infected. Still time for it to happen LOL.

Its Odd but I still cant go to websites I always used to go to such as hotmail.com. Im posting another Hijack this log, because Im ready to give up

Lets try the hosts file first

HOSTS files have several uses;
work your way through a couple of them on these sites, as well as finding how to re-name and edit your HOSTS file, and troubleshooting tips as well. http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
Another classic site is Gorilla’s http://www.accs-net.com/hosts

Also, a HOSTS file reader from here: http://members.shaw.ca/techcd/VB_Projects

Use that to check your hosts file for links that point websites away from where they should go.

You could even delete the hosts file and use the spybot S&D to install a new one. BTW you don't have to have a hosts file, but some ad blockers etc use that method to stop access by bad sites to your machine.

I have been checking out the site, i downloaded the DNS, and still going through the other site describing the host features. I also noticed in this error message.

If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.

I dont see PCT 1.0 under my advanced settings, maybe I just never noticed but should that be there?

PCT 1.0 is embedded in IE AFAIK:

Private Communication Technology (PCT) is a Microsoft-developed security protocol available in IE only. According to their Internet draft, "The Private Communication Technology (PCT) protocol is designed to provide privacy between two communicating applications (a client and a server), and to authenticate the server and (optionally) the client. A "higher level" application protocol (e.g., HTTP, FTP, TELNET, etc.) can layer on top of the PCT protocol transparently. Once transmission of application protocol data begins, all data is encrypted using the session key negotiated during the handshake."

What did your HOSTS file look like? Delete it and let it create a new one if desired. Windows is very self-repairing. *;-)

Thanks for clearing that up, I thought it was something my computer was missing. Forgive me but Im a lil confused with the host file, would this be mine

I would assume that file was called hosts.ics

what you are looking for is a file called hosts with no extention letters.

On my winXP system it was found at
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

I dont know what happened , or how it did but  with every ones help everything is working now. Every thing seems on the up and up. I will send my new host file, and Hijack this log, later on. And Im still going over the websites, making sure my computer is more secure than before.
