Trojan Virus?? I was refered from First Time Users

My computer is receiving Mailer Daemon emails, saying a message was returned.
When we never sent out the mail in the first place. This has happened when the computer was not even being used.

We have Firewall and Automantic Updates (from Dell) ON, but have no Anti-Virus Software anymore.

Could you help us find something to see if we have a Trojan Virus??

Or just any useful help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Hi

Let's see what we can find?

Please post a log on the HijackThis Forum where someone can review it and help you.
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board?board.id=si_hijack

Click HERE to download a self-extractable version of HijackThis.
  • Double click on hijackthis.exe to extract hijackthis to folder c:\hijackthis.
  • It will extract it to that folder and open the folder for you.
  • It will also create a shortcut on your desktop to HijackThis.

  • It will scan and the log should open in notepad.Click on "Edit > Select
  • All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the
  • log.
Do not have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

thanks,

Could have been a delayed e-mail to someone who has mcafee installed. This has happened to me.

My email address was receiving hundereds of these emails each day, and I was using web-based email from various different computers. Turned out someone who had my email address in their address book had the virus and it was spamming itself to all the addresses it could find on that person's system in order to try and get them to open the attachment, thus installing the virus on their own machine.

The moral of the story: you may not be the one with the virus infection here, although it is always a good idea to keep your antivirus software installed and up to date.
