Symantec has updated the Trojan.vundo Removal tool as of Oct 13/05. It does not show this on the download page as a recent update.
Download the removal tool anyway. -- right click and choose properties and the version should read 1.3.1.0. and the digital signature should show Oct13,2005.
Run the new version of this tool (FixVundo) and it will hopefully fix your problem.
My stepson just got the virus this week. We downloaded the removal tool. It said it removed it but Norton Antivius still has the popup, the file still exists, and the NAV can't repair, quarantine, nor delete it. I called Symantec and the message said to check back in 48 hours for this virus fix ....
His computer is a Dell too and the other ones we have (Sony, eMachines) do not have it yet.
I had been having the same problem all day and tried everything Symantec recommended, including the trojan.vundo removal tool, with no luck- then I downloaded the free trial of Spy Sweeper from Webroot and it fixed the problem in about two minutes. It detects it as "Virtumonde" and, since the virus apparently reinstalls itself or something at every startup, finds and eliminates the virus thread
before login occurs. It was brilliant. Before you run the program, though, make sure you download the updated Webroot adware definitions and disable Norton auto-protect and firewall temporarily- otherwise, Spy Sweeper will not be able to function or connect to the download server. After running this most excellent software, my computer now performs at much higher speeds and, most importantly, no longer displays that annoying Norton Antivirus message. Hope this helps :smileyhappy:
