trojan.vundo problem: please help

Hello and Welcome LibertyBob,

STEP 1.
======
SpySweeper
Please download WebRoot SpySweeper .
(It's a 2 week trial):

• 
  
• Click the Free Trial link under to "SpySweeper" to download the program.
  
• Install it.
  
• Once the program is installed, it will open.
  
• It will prompt you to update to the latest definitions, click Yes.
  
• Once the definitions are installed, click Sweep Now on the left side.
  
• Click the Start button.
  
• When it's done scanning, click the Next button.
  
• Make sure everything has a check next to it, then click the Next button.
  
• It will remove all of the items found.
  
• Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
  
• Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
  
• Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.
  

STEP 2.
======
Download Ewido

• 
  
• Download and install Ewido Security Suite It is a free trial version of the program.
  
• Install ewido security suite
  
• Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  
• The program will now go to the main screen
  

STEP 3.
======
Update Ewido
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.

• 
  
• On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  
• Then click on Start Update
  

The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use Ewido manual updates

STEP 4.
======
Ewido Scan
Once the updates are installed do the following:

• 
  
• Click on scanner
  
• Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  
• NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
  o You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  o If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  o DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  o If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  
• Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  
• Click Save report.
  
• Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
  

Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")


STEP 5.
======
A2 Free

You will have to register name and email address but this is free too.
Download A2
and run. Post the results please.

Here is Spy Sweeper log. I did not go farther because Ewido kept crashing in the middle of stepping through the 433 infections it found. I finally left it run all the way to the end of the scan, (25 minutes), but it still crashed about 80 files into stepping through the findings. I got the MS message about being sorry, but this program has encountered a problem...send it to MS or not.

Let’s clean up your hijackthis log now.

STEP 1.
======
Disable SpySweeper:
You have SpySweeper installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix.

• Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options>Uncheck "load at windows startup"
• Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
• Uncheck" home page shield".
• Uncheck ''automatically restore default without notification".

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable SpySweeper again.

STEP 2.
======
Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix© to your desktop.

• 
  
• Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  
• This will create a VundoFix© folder on your desktop.
  
• After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  
• Once in safe mode open the VundoFix© folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  
• You will first be presented with a warning.
  It should look like this
  VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
  By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
  Press enter to continue....
  
  
  
• At this point press enter one time.
  
• Next you will see:
  Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
  and then press enter:
  
• At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
  • C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\jkkli.dll
    
  
  
• Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  
• Next you will see:
  Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
  staff then press enter:
  
• At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
  • C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ilkkj.*
    This will be the vundo filename spelled backwards. for example if the vundo dll was vundo.dll you would have the user enter odnuv.*
    
  
  
• Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  
• The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  
• In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:
  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

It is strange that the 02--jkkli.dll still is there? However, the virus notice from Norton has finally gone away!

Although the norton av alert is no longer there, my internet browser is not allowing me into sites I was using prior to the fix. EG, Cnet online learning....I click enroll, and the screen refreshes, but nothing comes up new. Also, images are not showing on the screen, like screenshots of programs on Cnet. Too much protection?

Also, should I get Ewido off my system, since it is a second firewall to norton?

Can you use Firefox? If you can then we have narrowed the problem down.

Disable SpySweeper:
You have SpySweeper installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix.

• Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options>Uncheck "load at windows startup"
• Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
• Uncheck" home page shield".
• Uncheck ''automatically restore default without notification".

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable SpySweeper again.

• Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.
  
  
• Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

Disable SpySweeper:
You have SpySweeper installed. While this is a great program, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the program because it might stop our fix.

• Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options>Uncheck "load at windows startup"
• Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
• Uncheck" home page shield".
• Uncheck ''automatically restore default without notification".

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable SpySweeper again.

• Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

REGARDING WEBSITE PROBLEMS: I did not have problems getting into any website, but I did have problems at the CNET site, trying to enroll in a class, and viewing screenshots on the software review pages. Today, however, I hit the enroll button and it worked, so that must have been a temporary glitch in CNET's website. I still cannot view screenshots on the software review pages, but I really havent tried a whole lot of other sites. Let me work on that.

REGARDING RUNNING a COUPLE of scans:
I ran "Command on Demand" and it found nothing.

I ran Windows Trojan Scan and after kicking me out of Firefox into Explorer, it found two virtumonde instances, referred me to A2 site to download A2personal. It scanned my system again and found the two virtumondes plus two tracking cookies, which I removed before I saved the log...so I don't have the location of the two virtumondes. Sorry.

Now the A-Squared GUARD is giving me all these messages that Firefox and Thunderbird are exhibiting backdoor behaviour; that I should terminate them and submit them for analysis. I don't know what that means, so I am giving them permission to operate on a time by time basis until you can shed some light on what that message is all about.

REGARDING HJT LOG:
I tried to look for the lines you reference, but they are not present in the HJT log from my computer. I checked the prior log and those lines were not there either.

I used the compact files in Thunderbird, but did not find any instances of dddd.exe or 075466.rar. I deleted a lot of unnecessary files, looked at every attachment, but nothing resembling those names.

I ran a-squared scan and it found nothing.
After considerable problems getting explorer to allow activex installation, I finally got panda ActiveScan to run. It found two spyware items: not what it found before.
