I'm at a school... I don't have anywhere to host the image. It's like any normal windows xp login screen thats asks for a username and password when you try to enter a site that needs one.

But this happens with any site I go to. And it's not only doubleclick its all the sites I mentioned and more.

John_Doe,

I've just went directly to the ad.doubleclick.net and there's nothing there, even on the home page that prompts for a user name/ password.

Are you on a school or private pc? Can you post us up a screen shot of logon screen your referring to?

Mike.

John_Doe,

I'm not familar with that network, but this is what i'm thinking...

At the top, when it says 'connecting to ...', that sounds to me like something, the password interface your experiencing, is acting like a middle man between your computer and the internet. Whatever is up there, be it ad.doubleclick.net isn't important.

When you request a web page, your request is being routed though a server, and I think that server (the school's) is prompting you for a password/ username to access the internet on the school's network. It just so happens that ads may be loading first in the webpage your requesting, and that's why your seeing the 'connecting...' at the top.

Does this happen for everyone, or just your computer? Have you tried asking the network admininstrator about it?

John_Doe,

If you think it's a 'hack', have the network admin setup a 'dummy' account and try entering that (user name/ password) and see if it let's you on the internet. If it does, don't use that account again and see if anyone attempts to log on with that same 'dummy' account information.

The thing is you don't need a username/password to access the internet here though. It's just happening on this computer.

You think it might be a hack then? Might be. What can I do about this, other than asking the network admin.?

Thanks again.

John_Doe,

If there's a problem with that pc, it could be 'silently' creeping it's way towards others. The network admin is the place where i'd start. He might like to know if something is wrong with one of the pc's on the network.

Perhaps if you could give us the full and exact text of the login box that comes up, we might be able to provide further help.

It says exactly what I stated before, it's like a regular windows type login screen box that asks for User name and Password.  At the top it says "Connect to a... ad.doubleclick.net, adlog.com.com, altfarm.mediaplex.com, ads.com.com, pagead2.googlesyndication.com, a.tribalfusion.com", and several other sites. It asks for a different site everytime.
