Unwanted Internet pages spawning

Question

Hello,   My son's Inspiron E1505 has picked up something and we're not sure how to fix it.  His internet browser opens new pages automatically.  Not quite like pop up advertising inside an already open site.  When I downloaded Hijack This, the internet opened a number of anti spyware ad pages saying that the machine was infected.  When he goes to certain college information sites, he'll get pages opening for Fast Web progams.  A number of times, his browser was completely hijacked, spawing pages galore which could not be stopped.
