I installed version 16.0.0.305 and left the update set to automatic. I have MalwareBytes Pro, but not the anti-exploit. Should I just install the free version, or since I have the paid version of MBAM, is the Premium version of the anti-exploit  come at any extra cost

The two MalwareBytes products --- Anti-MALWARE and Anti-EXPLOIT --- are completely separate... if you want the paid/pro versions, you have to buy each one separately.

My suggestion is that you TRY the free version of MBAE.   It will protect the common browsers (IE, FF, Chrome, Opera) including their plug-ins (e.g., Java).   Use it for a while, to see if you notice any issues.

IF it finds something, you'll see a pop-up advising you as such.   And yes, like any other security program, there is the potential for a false positive.   Problems can be reported --- and hopefully fixed --- via their forum https://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?/forum/126-anti-exploit-product-support/

My only issues have been conflicts with EMET, which I have then had to "fine-tune"... but I'm assuming you're not running EMET.

If, for any reason, you encounter significant issues, and choose not to pursue them, you can simply uninstall it (or disable it), and you haven't lost a penny.

NOTE that, during the installation process, there will be a box --- I believe pre-checked --- offering you a (15-day???) trial version option.   I would suggest you NOT do it... just "play" with the simple free version.   But that choice is yours to make.
