New feature:  Block malware from downloaded files

"Google has offered an application reputation feature to detect malicious downloads as part of Google Safe Browsing since 2012. Although this part of the Safe Browsing API is not documented, they have offered it to us for use in Firefox. Malicious download detection is separate from detection of phishing and malware pages, though both features use some of the same mechanisms."

Details continued here:   https://wiki.mozilla.org/Security/Features/Application_Reputation_Design_Doc

Anybody know anything about Mozilla Thunderbird updates with Win 7 Pro?

I checked manually for updates in Thunderbird and it says Downloading and shows ~130 MB downloaded.

When it's done downloading, it says to click the button to install. I click the Restart button (to install) but nothing happens. If I click that button again, there's error saying Thunderbird is already running (but no visible window) and no signs of updating itself.

Go into Task Manager and kill the process and when I launch TB again, it's still the old version and not updated.

If I download the latest version 31.0 directly from their site, is it going to overwrite my in/out boxes etc or will it preserve them and just update the app? Can't afford to lose all my work messages and addresses.

Thanks.
