EDIT:  I suggest people hold off --- or at least, proceed with caution --- when considering the following OPERA "security update"....

I determined its existence by running the Secunia Online scanner within my older Opera 9.27.

However, after downloading/installing/"upgrading" to 9.50, when tried re-running the Secunia Scanner to be sure I was now fully up to date, it [repeatedly] crashed Opera [both before and after rebooting my system].

OPERA 9.5 released

Description (from http://secunia.com/advisories/30636/ ):

Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Opera, which can be exploited by malicious people to disclose potentially sensitive information or to conduct spoofing attacks.

1) An error in the handling of certain characters in a page address can be exploited to e.g. make a site's address look like another site's address.

2) An error in the checking of the source of images when used by HTML CANVAS elements can be exploited to retrieve the image data.

3) Pages in frames are able to change the location of pages in other frames on the parent page.

The vulnerabilities are reported in versions prior to 9.5.

Steve,

not sure... are you saying the Secunia Scanner crashed the old Opera 9.27?  or the new 9.50??  9.27 ran the secunia scanner just fine for me [as does IE].   opera 9.50 crashes when I try to run the secunia scanner.

I'm assuming there's a conflict / programming-error in the latest Opera update.   I don't know about the earlier Opera crashes (before I rebooted), but after rebooting, the subsequent Opera crashes generated a JAVA error [which I submitted to SUN for their consideration --- but I'm assuming the problem is with OPERA, and not with Java].

the fact that you "duplicated" my failures confirms that it's not just my system....

i'll keep you (and others) updated, should I learn anything more.   I trust you will do the same.

ky331,
I am running 9.27, but I did download your scanner you use to check it out.

I installed it, closed all my running programs and set it to scan.
It got as far as Collection File Information and it crashes ever time.

Why would this be happening.

Thanks
S
