Uploader.W keeps re-appearing

Mcafee keeps flagging and cleaning file found in /temp directory as a Uploader.W problem. Mcafee virus is also flagging other files in /temp as Adware.

I also keep getting sent to   http://www.winantivirus.com/landing/winav_pro.php?aid=nlwav_top20041119&lid=mcafee when going to mcafee.com.

What are these winlogin entries in this log file.

pmeoli,

Hello! and welcome to the Dell forums.

We'll need to unload (not uninstall) Intermute's SpySubtract, since it might interfere with other program(s) we might be using to 'clean' off your system.

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click " Free Online Scan".
2. Click " Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) " Auto Clean".
3. Click " Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Let's download the Symantec VirtuMundo removal tool, and run it.

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click " Config..."
2. Click " Misc Tools"
3. Click " Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate ( if present) and click on ( highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\assembly\temp\accutil.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click " Kill process". Now, click " Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
(Unless you've set these with a anti-spyware program like SpyBot's Immunize feature, have HiJackThis fix this.)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: xmlacc - C:\DOCUME~1\Donna\LOCALS~1\Temp\ccalmx.dat (file missing)

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

C:\WINDOWS\assembly\temp\accutil.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Donna\LOCALS~1\Temp\bilptf.dat
C:\DOCUME~1\Donna\LOCALS~1\Temp\litucca.dat
C:\DOCUME~1\Donna\LOCALS~1\Temp\scvi50.exe

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

Mike.

Ran Online scan and it found 66 files that it could not clean associated with TROJ VUNDO.A and TROJ AGENT.L; I was able to delete these files. VirtuMundo did not find any other files. Reran HJT, and the file noted below did not exist. I also fixed those files identified in the 4th step. The files in last step to delete did not exist.

Here is the latest scan. Wasn't sure if I should fix the BHO or winlogin references that had different files from the first log.

pmeoli,

Let's continue on with the fix...

We'll need to unload (not uninstall) Intermute's SpySubtract, since it might interfere with other program(s) we might be using to 'clean' off your system.

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click " Config..."
2. Click " Misc Tools"
3. Click " Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate ( if present) and click on ( highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\hardsrv.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click " Kill process". Now, click " Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {FF4D5071-EE0E-4DCA-BC1C-D776B0F2276E} - C:\DOCUME~1\Donna\LOCALS~1\Temp\vrsdrah.dat

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*hardsrv] C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\hardsrv.exe rerun

O20 - Winlogon Notify: hardsrv - C:\DOCUME~1\Donna\LOCALS~1\Temp\vrsdrah.dat

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\hardsrv.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Donna\LOCALS~1\Temp\vrsdrah.dat

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

Mike -

I did not have much luck this time. When I deleted the hardsrv.exe, it reappered as new process number.

I wasn't able to find the file in \SerivcePackFiles, but did find it here. I deleted it, and tried the first step again but it kept restarting.

C:\WINDOWS\Prefect\HARDSRV.EXE-317944B8.pf

I wasn't able to find the \temp\vrsdrah.dat file.

When running 'Fix checked', all 3 items said they were fixed, but came back as well.

Pete

Pete,

Let's try a different approach, and see if this scan can tell us something:

Download mwav.exe from MicroWorld, then:

1. Double-click the mwav.exe icon to run it ( it'll self extract).
2. Click " Scan".
3. When it completes, post back the results from the 'Virus log information' pane.

Pete,

Let's delete these files, then post back a new HiJackThis log and let's see what we have left.

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

files...

C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\hardsrv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\vgasys.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\BO2801040128.dll

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".

Pete,

I'm going to go ahead and request some assistance with this one, since the "hardserv" program seems to be causing quite a problem - let's hop over to www.malwareremoval.com, and sign up, then post your log there, where someone with more experience than myself should be able to help you remove that particular infection from your system.

Be sure to include a link to this thread so they'll have something to start with.
