virus killed my microsoft internet explorer help please

Question

ive got a dimension 4500 running windows xp i got a trogen horse virus from somewhere on net and its currupted my microsoft internet explorer 6 so now it wont find any web sites i try to goto,all it says is server not found. now first i got rid of the virus then i tryed to reinstall ie6 to try to override the files of the old one,that didnot work so ive tryed to remove the old ie6 but the only way i can find ie6 is to click add/remove programs then click add/remove window components and click ie6 but it dose not remove it, i thought if i remove it completly then reinstall a new one then it should be alright can anyone help

thank u denyboy its now perfect i look at microsoft which then led me to a nice site called computing.net where i found someone with same problem but on xp office and he was told to download winsockfix i did this and everything is now back to normal,so again thank u very much
