Virus Removal

Howdy,    I posted this message at the Dimension forum as well, but then saw this forum (my first time here at the Dell forums) and thought it appropriate to post here as well.     I am working on a Dimension XPS T500 machine.  I have already formatted the hard drive, and am ready to reload W98 SE.  However, when I had an identical machine and reloaded the O.S. per Dell support, the support guy had me run some DOS commands to clean up any virus's in DOS.  I failed to write them down at the time, and was wondering if anyone knows what these command lines are.  If I remember, they weren't the normal format for a DOS command, but more like a code.  There were also 5 or 6 different ones if my memory serves me right!   Thanks for any help!

theboomanchu Since you did a re-format no commands are needed. Some of the older checks and commands were used when an OS was re-installed, without re-format. You could run chkdsk to verify the quality of the harddisk bamajim Training at Malware Removal University

Thanks!  I'll go ahead and run chkdsk and load the O.S..  Now that I think about it, when I had Dell talk me through the reload, we didn't reformat.  Hence the commands to clear any viruses in DOS.  I appreciate the input!
