We are ready to begin.

Please download the latest version of VundoFix.exe to your desktop. (If you have an earlier version, delete it and its old log here: C:\ vundofix.txt.)
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files,
  • click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing
  • Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer,
  • click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new
  • HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not
remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot. ** If you get a warning about updating Java, do not do so until I can give you further instructions.

Hello Bugbatter,

There was not a file explicitly named "C:\vundofix.txt" in the C drive, but there was a folder "C:\VundoFix Backups" with one text file named "addmorefiles" and some *.dll.bad files. This is the contents of folder "C:\VundoFix Backups"

"addmorefiles.text":

C:\WINDOWS\system32\anfombyx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bitkxllg.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ekyjpamh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\etktoymb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ffnsjchy.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fhtqeebx.dll

C:\WINDOWS\system32\satfypcw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vvhrhdhb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yhcjsnff.ini

This is the content of the rest of the folder "C:\VundoFix Backups"
(*.dll.bad files), which seem to be the same as above:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\anfombyx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bitkxllg.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ekyjpamh.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\etktoymb.dll

No C:\vundofix.txt??? That is extremely odd!

In that case we will continue based on the information available.

Please launch HijackThis and place a checkmark next to the following:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {64318121-A8E7-469F-9804-82F2DBE9B867} - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: yaywtus - yaywtus.dll (file missing)
O23 - Service: DomainService - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\fgmbuhgm.exe (file missing)

Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix Checked". Close HijackThis.

We are going to run Vundofix again, but alter the instructions slightly.

Run VundoFix again.

  • At the Main window Rt Click in the Open Box and Select Add Files.

  • A second window will open.

  • Copy and paste the following into the blank boxes; one file path in each blank box.

    • C:\WINDOWS\system32\ffnsjchy.dll
      C:\WINDOWS\system32\ychjsnff.*

  • Select Add Files ->> Repeat until they are all loaded. Then Close Window

  • Click the Remove Vundo button. Do not click the Scan for Vundo Button

  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES

  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.

  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.

  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Btw, I update and run SpyBot often and SpyBot has tried to remove Vundo several time but has been unsuccessful. I even tried to delete the Vundo.dll with the SpyBot Start Up tool. I think that SpyBot creates backups of changes, do you think this is what is causing the different folder name in the C drive? Furthermore, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0.0 detects the virus but cannot move or delete it.

As long as you have followed instructions exactly as posted and have not tried to run any scans with Spybot during the course of our fix, there should be no problem. The reason we ask that you follow our steps closely is because other tools may conflict with what we are doing, and cause our tools to work improperly.

Please launch Hijackthis and plsace a checkmark next to the following:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {405671C7-9886-4BBA-87AE-3AAA1BA58F8C} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: {a008415e-e3fd-511a-5f74-e7c523c6b394} - {493b6c32-5c7e-47f5-a115-df3ee514800a} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\fhtqeebx.dll (file missing)

Close all other windows except Hijackthis and click "Fix Checked".

Reboot.

Run Disk Cleanup in each user's profile:
Click "Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup"
Please make sure only the following are checked:
-- Downloaded Program Files
-- Temporary Internet Files
-- Recycle Bin
-- Temporary Files
Click "OK" and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. It is possible that you may be running Java code in your applications that absolutely require a specific version of the JRE to run. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3 allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each of the Java versions.

  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Official JAVA Installation Instructions if needed.

Finally, please post a fresh HijackThis log and let me know how things are running.

That is because the malware that remains is looking for its buddy.

1. Please download Combofix from HERE

** Take note that the link is case sensitive
Save ComboFix to the desktop. **Note: It is important that it is saved directly to, and run from your desktop**

In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it as this is a new version.
* Close any open browsers. Disconnect from the internet.
* Close/disable all anti-virus and anti-malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

2. Double click ComboFix.exe and follow the prompts.
You will temporarily lose the Desktop while the scan is running. Once the scan is done your Desktop will return to normal.

3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Notes:
* Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
* ComboFix may reset a number of Internet Explorer's settings, including making it the default browser.

* Don't forget to enable your anti-virus before coming back online to post your logs.

Note: The above instructions were created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
You will be prompted to run Combofix again. Follow the same instructions you did before for running ComboFix.
