what to do?

My girlfriends grand kid had there computer locking up, I know it was infected but not with over 500 critters trojens, rootkits, vundo, etc.

It took me over a day to get  mbam and sas  on the computer and another day to get mbam to run (had to rename)  mbam found 170 critters and the computer was useable with out locking up, I updated and ran mbam and it found two more. I ran sas and found  many more. I got on line and ran eset"s online scan and it found two.

I gave them this computer for x-mas a few years ago and told them to keep it updated and run scans. Windows has never been updated and pc cillion only twice.I know formating and reinstal is a good idea but they needed some info on it.

What should I do foremat or try to trust it?

Malware Removal: When to Flatten and Reinstall Windows

"The only way to clean a compromised system is to flatten and rebuild. That’s right. If you have a system that has been completely compromised, the only thing you can do is to flatten the system (reformat the system disk) and rebuild it from scratch (reinstall Windows and your applications)."

Thanks Joe, I will tell them. I already told them that it should be done.  Some teens should not have a computer. I have never seen or read of any computer being this bad. Like I said I told them about security but it seems like a wild teen does what she wants.

And it is not only all the malware. Try to impress upon them the dangers of identity theft and other personal information being compromised
