where to put 'hijackthis log file
Hi,
I posted on the dell comm. forum asking if anyone knew where I could go to find out how to re-install IE. I was then told where I could go to generate a 'hijack this' scan, and create a log file. I have the file on a notepad, now where am I supposed to put it so it can be checked for errors?

Does that sound like your problem? we are getting a lot of complaints about this upgrade even from folks without HP products.

You might try to uninstall Google Web Accelerator and see if that makes a difference.
Click on Start > Settings > Control Panel to open the Windows Control Panel.
Click on Add or Remove Programs to open its window.
Click on Google Web Accelerator. A Remove button will appear below the Google Web Accelerator item.
Click the Remove button.
Close the Add or Remove Programs window and the Windows Control Panel.
Also remove SpeedNet the same way.
Otherwise since you say it is only in IE from IE, Tools, Manage Add-Ons and disable all of the addons. Close IE and reopen.
See if that makes a difference. IF it does then turn them on one at a time and see if you can find the one that causes the problem.
You have a bunch of remnants in your log but nothing that looks bad.
Close Internet Explorer, run HJT (scan only) and check these then Fix Checked.

Some people complain about this line slowing them down. You can remove it too if you want to.

You can look for rootkits:
download and run blacklight
F-Secure Blacklight: http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
click > scan then > next,
If any items show have blacklight rename them except for wbemtest.exe"
Do not rename "wbemtest.exe" it's a windows file
The tool will ask if you want to reboot (restart) choose yes.

I did everything that you suggested. Removed all the remnants and google web acc.
The secure blacklight did not find anything.
I have waited this long to see how things went. It doesn't seem like IE has been crashing as much, but something keeps disconnecting my pc. It will probably do it once every hour, sometimes more, sometimes less.
Thank you for all your help, Sandy

Try a few of the free scans and see if they find anything but I suspect you may just have some corrupted files or a bad ISP link.

Thanks for the links, but I have the paid version of Lavasofts Adaware w/Adwatch, paid v. P.C.Doc Pro 3.5, paid v. Registry Mechanic, paid v. Avg 7.0-so I think I have pretty good protection. But I did TRY to download SpyBot search&destroy and ya know, I have been having trouble downloading things for the past couple of weeks. My pc disconnects from internet when I try to download usually, or it just aborts the download over and over. I got to thinking about this and it seems like it has been like this since I downloaded 'Download Accelerator Plus'[DAP}. Yep, when the downloads DO go thru, I get them faster but I wonder if the problem with pc disconnecting during download-is DAP the cause of that??
Can't seem to win my battle with pc problems. Get one thing working better just to have something else not working right!!! I wonder if Mr. Microsoft has pc problems? yea right.
Do you know anything about DAP?
