Why do I have to keep restoring system

Help,
I cannot open saved word documents (or save new ones) and I cannot look up internet web addresses unless I use search instead of the address bar.
The word document says not responding and the internet icon spins forever.
If I restore my computer back to a previous checkpoint, then it all comes back and works. Until the next day. When I turn on the computer, I'm back to the same problems. If I'm prepared to restore my computer everyday it works but this is rediculous.
Any ideas???????????????

What happens when you use the address bar to go to a website?

I can use the web if I go to my favorites. It is as if I can only use previously viewed items. Not any new sites.

When was the last time you cleaned out your temporary internet files?

Start

Control Panel

Internet Options

Delete the temporary internet files

i agree with grudgeon [ edit: and bamajim, who beat me to this post by 3 minutes :smileywink:  ].... odds are, you are suffering from a "flaw" in the recent (April) windows explorer critical update MS06-015 (908531)

when you do a system restore, it's going back to before that update was applied... and things run normally again.

however, i'm assuming you have your system set to automatically download & install any "new" critical updates... which explains why the problem re-asserts itself every day.

Microsoft has announced that it will release (hopefully sometime today, 25 April) a "revision"/fix for this problem.

if the fix isn't released today:
you can temporarily turn-off automatic updates.   and then, when you do your system restore, things should continue to work "normally".    be advised, however, that the "critical update" was intended to protect your system against some major vulnerabilities... and that, in doing a system store (which effectively "removes" this critical update), you're leaving your system susceptible to these other potential problems.

If I may, I'd like to suggest that you look at this article and see if that resolves your issue

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

It has to do with a recent MSN update that has caused issues that you are describing

The update (fix) is supposed to be available now. But I haven't heard whether it's effective yet

Thanks guys, that was exactly it. It was the microsoft critical update that was causing the problem. When Microsoft sends out the fix will the old one disappear or do I have to delete it, otherwise it will keep bothering me to update.

Thanks again for your help btw
