Hi and welcome,

Be sure to look this solution over before you begin. There are a some item(s) i'm not familar with. If you recognze any, then just omit them from this fi

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click " Config..."
2. Click " Misc Tools"
3. Click " Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate ( if present) and click on ( highlight) each of the following:

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWFX5RS_0001_0808NetInstaller.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click " Kill process". Now, click " Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u accdoc.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\accdoc.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UWFX5RS_0001_0808] "C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWFX5RS_0001_0808NetInstaller.exe"
O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?

O20 - Winlogon Notify: accdoc - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\accdoc.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: baktcp - C:\WINDOWS\java\baktcp.dll

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked"

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...
C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch

files... C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\UWFX5RS_0001_0808NetInstaller.exe
C:\WINDOWS\java\baktcp.dll

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from "Safe Mode".

Reboot and post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

Download KillBox, unzip it to your desktop, then run it. Now:

1. select " Action | Delete on reboot".
2. copy/paste the following file name(s), one at a time, in the " Paste Path of File to Delete" field:

C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch

3. click " Kill File".
4. when prompted to " Reboot Now" select " Yes".

After you reboot that should be gone.
Post a fresh log and let's see after you kill this.

Make sure that that folder is empty, if it can't be deleted then follow in this cleanup:

This is my normal post for when you are clean - which you now are - or seem to be. Please advise of any problems you still have :-

Here are some last minute instructions.

  • Download and run CleanUp and clean up all the junk we have left.

  • Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
  • You can find instructions on how to enable and re enable system restore here:
    Managing Windows Millennium System Restore
    or
    Windows XP System Restore Guide
re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.

      6. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

      7. Use an Anti Virus Software
        - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:
      8. Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus

      9. Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

      10. Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:
      11. Computer Safety On line - Software Firewalls

      12. Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

      13. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
      14. This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
        Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

      15. Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
      16. Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

      17. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:
      18. Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware

      19. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
      20. Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I spoke too soon. You are still infectected but this should clean it up for you.

Please download VundoFix.zip to your desktop.
      • Double-click VundoFix.zip and extract it to your C:\ directory.
      • Copy the instructions below and paste them into Notepad for reference.
        • All other windows need to be closed while doing this fix!
      • Navigate to the new folder C:\VundoFix
      • Double click on KillVundo.bat
        • When it starts running it will tell you that you need an active internet connection then ask you to press any key once you do.
      • Please press any key to continue.
      • Wait for HiJackThis to open.
      • When HiJackThis opens, click Do a system scan only. Place a check next to the following items, if found:

        O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\accdoc.dll

O20 - Winlogon Notify: accdoc - C:\WINDOWS\AppPatch\accdoc.dllOnce they all have a check next to them, click the FIX CHECKED button, then close HiJackThis.

You will once again be prompted to press any key. Upon doing so this time
you will receive a "Blue Screen Of Death". Don't worry, this is normal!
Let the computer reboot. If it doesn't boot straight to windows,
manually turn the computer off and then back on.

Once the computer is rebooted post a new HiJackThis log as well as the contents of vundofix.txt which can be found in this folder: C:\ VundoFix

      Run this process here

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please right-click: HERE and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Grinler's reg file. Save it to your desktop.

Locate " smitfraud.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and remove the following programs, if found:

      Security IGuard
      Virtual Maid
      Search Maid

      Exit Add/Remove Programs.

*IMPORTANT* CLICK THIS LINK TO LEARN HOW TO VIEW HIDDEN FILES

I need you to copy all of the Killbox file paths below and paste them into Notepad.

      * Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit. *In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.

      * Unzip to your desktop.

      * Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.

      * Select " Delete on Reboot".

      * Open the Notepad file where you saved the file paths earlier and copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C

      C:\wp.exe
      C:\wp.bmp
      C:\bsw.exe
      C:\Windows\sites.ini
      C:\Windows\popuper.exe
      C:\Windows\system32\hhk.dll
      C:\Windows\System32\wldr.dll
      C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
      C:\Windows\System32\intmon.exe
      C:\Windows\System32\shnlog.exe
      C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
      C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
      C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
      C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe

      * Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose " Paste from Clipboard".

      * Click the red-and-white " Delete File" button. Click " Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click " No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Make sure you can view hidden files.

Using Windows Explorer, delete the following, if found, ( please do NOT try to find them by "search" because they will not show up that way)

FOLDERS to delete (in bold) if found:

      C:\Program Files\ Search Maid
      C:\Program Files\ Virtual Maid
      C:\Windows\System32\ Log Files
      C:\Program Files\ Security IGuard

While still in Safe Mode, do the following:

Make sure all programs and windows are closed. Run HiJackThis and place a check next to the following items, if found, then click FIX CHECKED

      items to fix

      Close HiJackThis.

      Reboot into normal mode.
1.) Download The Hoster Press "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK". Exit Program.

2.) Right-Click HERE and Save As to download DelDomains.inf to your desktop.
To use: RIGHT-CLICK DelDomains.inf on your desktop and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

3.) Download, install, and run CleanUp!

4.) Run this online virus scan: ActiveScan - Save the results from the scan!

After that run Download this file to your desktop
      http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from ActiveScan.'

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary
to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the
program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and
      reinstall the protection

This is Ron.  Sorry for the delay.  Not at work today.

Looks to me like Steve has got your log pretty clean.  Are you still having problems?

The file won't hurt anything but I can understand how it makes you nervous to have it on your system.  I'd try and remove it with Killbox.  You can just type in the full path to the dll  (C:\windows\System32\AppPatch.dll ) or copy and paste it  and then hit the red button.

If that doesn't work then I think if you boot into Safe Mode (F8) and select the Command Prompt then in the resulting black screen type:

      cd \
      dir /s apppatch.*

(This will take a while.  It searches you hard drive to see where the file is hiding.  We know it is in System32 but we need to make sure it hasn't gotten installed in Windows\System32\dllcache or someother folder.  IF you find it elsewhere then follow the same procedure to delete it as below but do it first!)

      cd \windows\system32
      (changes to the folder)

      attrib -r -h -s apppatch.dll
(make it easier to see and delete)

      del /f apppatch.dll
      (that should delete it.)

      dir apppatch.*

(hopefully it does not show up here)

(you can reboot if it is gone)

(if not try to rename it)

      ren apppatch.dll apppatch.bad

      del /f apppatch.bad

(If all else fails try unregistering the thing)

      regsvr32 /u apppatch.dll

      (then delete it)

      del /f apppatch.dll

      Ron
