I see at least one "obvious" WinFixer infection... but i tend to believe you have multiple copies :-(     let's start with the obvious one, and take things one step at a time:

based on the line

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\byxwt.dll

you should try following the information given here:

when you're done, append a copy of your NEW HJT log to this thread.

Thank you for the advice and solution... I followed through with the vundo fix, hijack this fix then repeated procedure for the other two .dll I saw. 3 in total:

020 - Winlogon Notify: byxwt - C:\WINDOWS\system32\byxwt.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: hgghg - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hgghg.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: mllig - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mllig.dll

I hope that was the correct action to take at that point. Anyway, it seems they are all now gone. Have not used the computer yet to determine whether or not pop-ups are continuing but hope not. The question at this point is whether or not the following is malicious and should also be removed...as it is not included in the BHO above, I assumed not...

O20 - Winlogon Notify: Sebring - C:\WINDOWS\System32\LgNotify.dll

It seems more legit, but what do I know?

In any event, here is the complete log now:

as i initially indicated, it was my belief that you had multiple "copies" of the winfixer infection.
the o2-BHO:MSEvents is a "dead give-away", so I suggested we focus on that one first.   as you saw from reading my winfixer write-up, each such MSEvents line has a corresponding O20 - Winlogon Notify line.   like you, i was suspicious of the other two meaningless/random filenames there:  hgghg.dll & mllig.dll
but i wanted to check with someone else for verification, just to be sure.  anyway, since you've already removed them [which was probably the correct thing to do under these circumstances], it's a moot point now.

and i agree with you that the other O20 Sebring - LgNotify.dll   certainly doesn't fit this "pattern".   it may be legit.... but then again it may not.   for the time being, don't do anything to it... or to anything else.   i'm gonna try to get someone else to step-in, to determine additional problems (if any) that you might have.

nice work so far, and a hope for continued success.

Thank you. I appreciate your help with this. Hope I didn't over-do it.

Very truly yours,

This is Ron.

The Sebring entry has something to do with your wireless connection so please don't kill it.

Your log looks OK.

Make sure you have System Restore running (toggle it off and On today to get rid of any bad stuff it may have retained)
and then you can just go back to an earlier time if you hit a bad site.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx

After toggling System Restore and creating a new Restore point.  If you run the active scan again you should find that it comes up clean.

One way to make an infection more obvious is to check everything in your current HijackThis and Add to Ignore List then set up Hijackthis to run at boot and to show you if it finds anything new.   One of the first things it will find is its own entry so if you see an O4 line with Hijackthis.exe in it you can Add it to the Ignore List.  Otherwise google on the .exe or .dll file at the end of the line and see what other people think of the file.

To avoid going to a bad site you might want to install IE-SpyAd and SpywareBlaster and make the other changes recommended at:.

I used to recommend Spybot's Immunize system but have recently learned it is not as good as the one at:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

Never hurts to do one of the free on line scans from Panda or Trend.  They take a while but are pretty good.

In addition to Microsoft AntiSpy

I like to run Spybot S&D.

Also like to run AdAware once in a while.
