Winfixer help needed

Question

I'm having a little trouble getting rid of winfixer 2005 popup. Yesterday I ran HijackThis and found this in the log: O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {CE70731D-F28D-4D81-9D61-C8EE60378401} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvvt.dll so I followed the instructions and ran vundofix to clear it away.  And then reran HijackThis and fixed the O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {CE70731D-F28D-4D81-9D61-C8EE60378401} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvvt.dll and the O20 - Winlogon Notify: awvvt - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awvvt.dll lines.   I then had a 2nd MSEvents Object appear: O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {CE70731D-F28D-4D81-9D61-C8EE60378401} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtuts.dll so I ran vundofix/HijackThis  to clear it away as well. All seemed well for a while but I just got winfixer to pop up again tonight.   Here is my HijackThis log from tonight.  I'm a little suspicious about two dlls ssqro.dll and ssqrs.dll even though they are not MSEvents Objects. yes, go ahead and run the Atribune VundoFix, based on each of your suspicious filenames

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqrs.dll

and

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssqro.dll

these are both vundo/virtumundo trojans, generating your WinFixer popups, even though you don't have an MSEvents line for them.

[for your infomation, the ATLDistrib Object is a brand new version... you're only the 3rd case we've seen here at DELL]

when you're done with BOTH fixes, REPLY here, and generate/post your updated/revised HJT log.

Nice work. Looks like the VundoFix successfully removed the two bad WinFixer files. Have you noticed any difference, in terms of WinFixer popups, and overall system speed/performance?

At this point, I'm gonna try to ask someone else to step-in, to determine additional problems (if any) that you might have. Please be advised that we're very "understaffed" at the moment, so I can't make any guarantee as to when (or even if) the next helper will arrive.

Make sure you have System Restore running (toggle it off and On today to get rid of any bad stuff it may have retained)
and then you can just go back to an earlier time if you hit a bad site.

One way to make an infection more obvious is to check everything in your current HijackThis and Add to Ignore List then set up Hijackthis to run at boot and to show you if it finds anything new.

To avoid going to a bad site you might want to install IE-SpyAd and SpywareBlaster and make the other changes recommended at:.

Make sure you have removed any older versions of Java or JRE with Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs. Updates do not remove the older versions which have exploitable flaws.

If you are not running the latest version of Adobe you should consider updating. There are reports of a loophole for hackers in pre 7.03 versions.
As an alternative you can dump adobe completely and use fox-it instead:
