Yahoo Email Account Phishing Scam Analysis
I have been receiving emails recently, supposedly from my ISP (Rogers), entitled: Rogers Webmail: Security Alert, warning me about the imminent suspension of my email accounts:
Scarey stuff, but it is all a scam. Clues?
- First, the "Cyrillic (Windows)" in the upper right-hand corner.
- Second, it is a generic address to a "Dear Rogers Customer", not to me by name.
- Third, when I hover my mouse over the "Click here" link, I see the actual URL in the status bar at the bottom is not to a Roger's link.
When I visit the "Click here" link, I am presented with an exact image of my Rogers/Yahoo email sign-in page:
This is a fake website. Do not enter any of your personal data here. The criminals would love to have it.

"warning me about the imminent suspension of my email accounts"... or bank/credit accounts... is a common scare-tactic used to try to entrap people.
