VIA aborts at "Storage system IP and system name configuration"

For reasons unknown, VIA aborted with the error:

"Message: Unable to change array name.

Full Description: The backup IP address and name could not be set up, or the Proxy ARP check failed (see details above) Recommended action: Retry the operation. If the problem persists, contact your authorized service provider Event code: 15301148698"

at this point the VNX5400 (Unified, brand new system) is inaccessible from any of the management port options (IP network, maintenance port on the array, serial port on the array).  One thing that is suspicious is that the installation environment had no network, and hence no DNS. The tool says it will use the DNS from the workstation in this case.

Could lack of DNS be an issue here?  We would like to start over to see if we can reproduce the problem and reset the array from scratch.  This procedure, however, does not seem to be well documented.  Primus emc216639 seems an EMC-only document.

Any workarounds?  Thanks!
