3578 - 3rd party battery not charging
Hi,
I address my issue mainly to the Dell Team. (Pity that I could not find a direct email address to tech. support)
I have a Vostro 3578 laptop and i bought a non-dell battery to replace the original one.
During bot - to my surprise - I got a warning message which declares, that this battery is non a Dell one and will refuse to charge it. Continue and OP system starts, battery works, but really not charging...
Googling for solution, I did not find any. Instead found some articles says this is your business politics to lock out 3rd party batteries (maybe other components too).
Which would be very-very customer unfriendly, as:
- this "feature" was not advertised when the machine was sold
- price of Dell battery is ~ 3x higher than the non-Dell (and i have concerns about it would last 3x longer - nevertheless seems I won't have a chance to try)
- user got no more warranty for a genuine battery
If that is NOT true, then please help solve my issue.
If true, then this laptop was my last Dell product I bought. I would feel it really disgusting that I would have to buy a Dell component, just because it is Dell, while gives no any other benefit for triple price. Should find a different way to increase income...
Thank you in advance,

Unfortunately that problem is common with non-Dell batteries. The system can and does detect batteries that are not genuine Dell OEM batteries and it may cause a not charging issue. Buying a non-Dell battery that may charge properly is hit and miss. This forum post touches on that subject. Also you could reach out to the retailer where you bought the battery as they may allow an exchange.
