Dell Vostro Unexpected Shutdown Issues: Seeking Advice on Next Steps

Vostro 3405

Vostro 3405

My Dell Vostro laptop has been plagued by overheating issues since I first purchased it. The problem has worsened recently, leading to sudden and frequent force shutdowns. I ran a stress test to evaluate the fan's performance and found that it was able to maintain the CPU temperature at 88 degrees Celsius during 100% CPU usage. However, during video calls or basic tasks, the temperature occasionally spikes to 99 degrees Celsius. Interestingly, the shutdowns occur both when the fans are running and when they are off.

In addition to the shutdowns, I've also encountered frequent BSODs and frequent windows corruption in Windows 11. The windows corruption and sudden shutdowns escalated to a point where i was not able to reinstall windows due to sudden shutdowns during important installation. Pre-boot tests revealed no hardware issues, and I've run diagnostics that haven't indicated any major problems with the memory or SSD. The shutdowns have even persisted outside of the Windows environment, occurring in recovery tools, safe mode, and even the BIOS.

To address the overheating issue, I reinstalled the latest system BIOS provided by Dell. This seemed to alleviate the problem, and the shutdowns stopped during daily tasks, even under high temperatures.

I contacted Dell technical support, and they suggested that the issue lies with the heatsink assembly. However, I'm concerned that the problem might actually stem from a faulty motherboard or other hardware issue in the laptop. If I opt for Dell's on-site heatsink assembly replacement service, what guarantees are there that this will resolve the issue? What if the issue is not with the head sink assembly but with any other hardware component, will dell provide a warranty for problem resolutions. I'm hesitant to send my laptop to a service center due to my regular work meetings and the lack of a spare device.

I'm currently considering two options in mind:

    1. Bring the laptop to the nearest service center for diagnosis and replacement of faulty parts on-site.

    1. Agree to Dell's on-site heatsink assembly replacement without waiting for a diagnosis at the service center.

Which option should I choose? Additionally, if I choose to have the laptop assessed at the service center, how long will the process typically take in Noida? What if the issue is not with heat sink assembly as told by dell technical team, will they provide a refund for the parts ?

Thank you for your assistance.
