Docking Station Compatibility
Hi, I have a Dell laptop for work and now that we work from home I have a K17A001 docking station and two Dell screens either side of it on my desk and this setup works great
I am looking to upgrade my own personal laptop and have decided I want one that will also work with the existing docking station so that I can also use these screens for home use (and just swap between laptops)
I have picked out a Dell laptop in my price range (Dell Vostro 3510 Core i5-1135G7 16GB 512GB SSD 15.6 Inch Windows 10 Pro Laptop - Laptops Direct) but it doesn't come with the USB-C socket that the docking station uses to connect to my existing work laptop...
Can I still connect to my docking station via one of its other USB slots or do I HAVE to have a laptop with that USB-C connection? (Changing the docking station is not an option as this is company equipment)
Ideally I'd like to be able to either work or use my own laptop on the same desk using the same equipment and not have to double up on anything ...
Can anyone advise re this issue?
Many thanks Jen

The answer depends on what you want to be able to do with the dock. If it's to charge the system while it's operating, you need a different system -- the model you've linked is a bottom-barrel entry level notebook that does not have the ability to charge over USB/Thunderbolt.
Look a bit higher in the model line -- the 5000 or 7000 series systems will have that feature, it it is a must have.
For that matter, if this is to be used for business purposes, a Latitude (with next day pro support) is strongly encouraged. If a Vostro system requires warranty repair, you could find yourself waiting two weeks or more for repair.
