Fingerprint reader Vostro 5402 (cannot find device)

I have a Vostro 5402 and the fingerprint reader stopped working.  I looked online and found a lot of posts regarding this and they all suggest updating the driver.  I checked and had the current driver, yet I kept getting error message if I tried to upload the drive again which said it could not find the fingerprint reader device.  I know the device is there somewhere, but the laptop cannot find it?

I am not a tech guy so I need help.  I need to know how to install the device and associated software!

Try to take help by contacting Dell Customer Care Support.

Hello,

Are you joking trying to contact dell support  for help they are totally useless all what they say is canned reply’s that they read of a piece of of paper it is like a bot. Take a look at some of the other reply’s from dell cares

Agree.  They told e to join a Dell community of users because as users they understand the Dell products better than Dell.  Lol

I eventually figured this out on my own

Sorry to hear about your experience. Can you let me know if it was running the SupportAssist updates that fixed this for you? I just wanted to have this solution shared with others on the forum.
