Laptop has HDMI port but i need to use display port

Vostro 3420

Vostro 3420

Hi,

I have a Vostro 3420 which i use for work. My old setup had 2 screens which had display ports as connections. The new laptop only has 1 HDMI input.

I am struggling to connect the 2 screens as it wont recognise them. I bought these two items:

YOXITIXOY 4K DisplayPort to HDMI 1.8M Cable, Gold-Plated DisplayPort (DP) to HDMI Cable Compatible for Lenovo, Dell, HP, Asus and other brand (1.8M*1) : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

x2

StarTech.com USB 3.0 to Dual HDMI Adapter - 1x 4K 30Hz & 1x 1080p - External Video & Graphics Card - USB Type-A to HDMI Dual Monitor Display Adapter - Supports Windows Only - Black (USB32HD2) : Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

x1

I am looking to use it as an extended display setup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You will need an adapter that connects USB-C port to dual DisplayPort.

Connecting the USB-C connector to your laptop USB-C w/displayport logo.

Then connecting each of DisplayPort to from the adapter to DisplayPort cables connecting to your monitors.

Hi there,

Thanks for your reply - my laptop does not have a USB C port. it does have 3 standard USB ports though.

You can use one monitor with HDMI and one monitor with USB port.  However, many cable/adapter are uni-directional, signals travel from DisplayPort to HDMI.  You need to use adapter with a USB connector for signal conversion.

First monitor HDMI to DisplayPort adapter.

Second monitor USB DisplayLink adapter.
