Vostro 3558 battery not charging, LED flashing
I recently got a Dell Vostro 3558.
First of all, the battery does not hold charge and does not charge, so I assume I need to replace it?
Also, the diagnostic LED is confusing me. At present, it is blinking white and orange, one after the other. While I was writing this paragraph, it started rapidly blinking orange for a few seconds before going back to the white/orange cycle. I checked the LED guide for Vostros from a link from another question on this forum but nothing described there is similar to what my laptop is doing. Anyone know what's happening? Thanks.

Disconnect the battery from the system board -- if the flashing ceases, the battery is dead and will need to be replaced.
If it's the original battery (or even a replacement, since the system is about seven years old) -- it's likely dead of old age.

The LED has stopped flashing and is now solid white, I assume this is normal. Looks like a new battery is in order, thanks for your help. For future reference for myself or others I'll leave the aforementioned LED guide here. https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-uk/000141346/a-reference-guide-to-the-vostro-notebook-diagnostic-indicators
