Vostro 7620, battery?
Vostro 7620
Hi everyone!
I got Vostro 7620 7 months ago and on the paper it looked like a dream laptop. When it came it was a disappointment. Latitude 5320 I also have, feels much better, sturdier and just more professional.
But, it is what it is.
I have one question and I'm hoping someone could help me. Battery on Vostro 7620 is just terrible. It can pull max 1 hour 30 minutes I'm thinking of purchasing 86Wh battery but found a thread on Reddit where a user bought the new battery and only got 15 more minutes of it.
It could be only purchased from Dell and it costs $160! (for a battery, c'mon)
Anyway, I need better battery on Vostro as I'm not planning to sell it. Would you recommend getting the new battery?
And can someone please tell me why this laptop sounded amazing on paper and felt 3-star when working on it?

Please see attached screenshots and how the battery just jumps up and down. This is not performance of a serious business laptop...

Vostros are just Inspiron systems with a different paint scheme and a slimmer software load -- they're consumer-grade notebooks. You can't compare them to Latitudes on features and build; they're designed to sell at low prices.
The battery should run longer than that -- what is running on the system when you experience the short battery runs? You'll never see 4+ hours out of that battery in an extreme budget notebook, but you should be able to top 3 hours.

Same struggle, among other things. My previous laptop was also a Dell and the battery lasted 12 years! Currently shopping for a new battery for my Vostro. I agree though-will it fix the longer term issue? Ugh.

I would like to join the party on this. I can't take my WORK laptop on a plane or use it in an airport unless I'm right next to a plugin. I have no problems with the performance of laptop. When docked at the office it can run 3 monitors, AutoCAD, take-off software, Chrome and other apps just fine, all at once. But unplug it and you have about 2 hours at best if you're just doing light work.

The battery has lost about 20% of its design capacity, which won't help the runtimes.
You haven't mentioned the GPU and screen type you have, but if it's a discrete GPU and even more so with the 3K display, the GPU and screen are the biggest power consumers in the system. Disable the discrete GPU; that should help on battery.
There's not much you can do about the power consumption of a 3K screen if that's what you have.
The bottom line is that you can have high performance from a system or good battery life. To have high performance, you need high performance hardware (CPU/GPU/screen) which means high power consumption.
If you need extended time on battery, look into a 13 or 14" notebook with integrated video (and for even better battery runs, an ARM rather than an Intel or AMD CPU).
