VxRail Upgrade related issues from Version 7 to 8 (License Issue + Pre Check Failures)
I want to upgrade my VxRail as I want to upgrade my internal vCenter from version 7.0.550 to 8.0.361
I am not sure about the licensing issue as version 7 had a perpetual license for us but with version 8, I believe the subscription model was introduced. I have a license till 2028 so I think it should not be an issue however is the license automatically changed during the upgrade? My concern was what if the license is not automatically picked up and somehow, I end up with an evaluation period considering I'm doing this upgrade in a production environment, so I don't want that to happen.
Furthermore during the Pre Check test available, I found two issues and I am not sure how to fix them. I am not able to find the KB for the first issue and the second issue resolution says to contact Dell Support. The two issues are:
1. Lock found in lockservice Please refer to KB000208650
2. Kubectl query failed but No Client data mismatch found Please refer to KB000212809

You cant add a "higher" license key to a lower version of a vCenter. So whats you see is a expected behaviour
Als always

Hi,
if you have a perpertual vSphere with active Subscription you have to upgrade this within the broadcom portal. VxRail does not do that for you.
Please keep notice that vSphere 8 have a EOSL somewhere in 2027 and none of the old vSphere versions are entitled for vSphere 9.
About the old lookup services.... this are stuff from the past. We ignore it ;) Otherwise take a look into the KB and create a #SR to get it resolved.
Regards,
Joerg

I need to be sure about the license before upgrading. I have all the required licenses however my environment does not have internet connection. I cannot add the new licenses for version 8 in version 7 for some reason. I have a doubt if it will be the same when adding the license keys after upgrading. Does the "adding a license" process require internet connection to verify that the key is valid or not?

VCF9 required a Internet connection or at least every 180 Days you neet to renew the license.
But you talk about the legacy perpetual vSphere licensing and there was no change. I run VxRAIl on vSphere 8(Enterprise Plus).
Also for exixting VxRAIL on vSphere 8 cant upgrade to VCF9 .. just 5.5. But again you have no VCF.

In my case I am not going to version 9. I am upgrading from version 7.0.550 to 8.0.361 and I have the licenses valid upto 2028. For me I just need to confirm how to add the licenses because I have tried adding the licenses in version 7 and it was giving an error about the keys being invalid. I am not sure what is the reason, is it because there is no internet connection or it is not picked up by version 7?

@Origin3k Sorry but do you mean I cannot* add a "higher" license key to a lower version of a vCenter?
I already have the version 8 license keys available with me and from what I understand, I should be able to add the license keys after upgrading the VxRail from version 7 to 8 and I don't need any internet for that so there should be no issues adding the licenses using the keys.
Can you confirm? Thanks for your interim response
