reverting to Windows7 (from Windows8 )

Can anybody tell me how to revert to Windows 7? I bought an upgrade to Windows 8 which I dislike.

I have an Inspiron "all in one". I tried using F12 and then booting from the 3 recovery discs that I made originally, but got a report saying they would not work with this computer.

Any help would beappreciated (I am very much a novice)

Hi if your system came with win 7, and you installed win 8 upgrade, then you will need to do a clean install to get win 7 back on. Have you tried pressing F2, and going into the BIOS to change the boot option.

Yes that is exactly what I did, it came with Windows 7.

Excuse a beginner but isn't a clean install done from the recovery discs?

It should be but the programs to make the recovery discs often don't work as well as they should or at all. The Reinstallation DVD is far superior which Dell DO NOT provide due to some extremely annoying OEM media reduction enforced by Microsoft.

You can try and contact Dell Technical Support in the UK to request a Windows 7 Reinstallation DVD:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/adapter_recall/regional_support?c=us&l=en&s=gen

However results are extremely limited and it seems up to the support agents discretion:

  • You may get the DVD for free like customers in the US or charged a small price of up to £20.
  • Alternatively you may be informed Dell do not supply recovery media and told to buy a new license.
  • Alternatively you may be charged up to £60 for the Reinstallation DVD.

Which is why I may the poll here:

Good luck.
