How to read the BSOD

To be able to read the BSOD, you need to do this.

Start, Control Panel, System, Advanced System Settings, Advanced, Startup and Recovery, Settings.

Change the time to Display Recovery Options to 60 seconds. This should give you enough time to write fown the error code.

Hit the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type

%SystemRoot%\

Look for MEMORY.DMP (This contains the information about your BSOD

If you still have problems, then post then in the Dell Microsoft OS Forum

why not boot into 'safe mode' then in the control panel open the "system" icon; under the 'advanced tab' in the "startup and recovery" section click 'settings' ;then under "system failure" uncheck 'automaticly restart'. now the BSOD remains until you restart with the power button. Another advantage of this is the computer does not continously attempt to restart untill power is removed. Microsoft should make this the default position.

Can use bluescreenview - google it out - software to check minidump files. Make sure you run as Admin, so that Bluescreenview has admin prev. to view minidump folder. Its actually %SystemRoot%\Minidump folder. This will usually tell the root cause of the issue like a driver file - .sys file usually. See - www.aumha.org/a/stop.htm for more BSOD in XP, can be used even for Vista 7 and 8 with a :( :emotion-1:
