0x0000007E error
I turn on my computer. It runs fine. The Windows logo appears with the black background. Then the blue screen of death appears which reads:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. It this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identiied in the Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x8050ED93, 0xF96DE508, 0xF96DE204)
The error message appeared after I updated my computer with SP3.
I have adequate disk space of 40%.
I tried using Safe Mode and all other modes but continue to get the blue screen error message. I cannot get past the blue screen onto the home area.
I don't have a Windows XP Install CD.

I have this EXACT same problem!! Cruciver you are not alone
I know that the issue is certainly Windows related - I can install a second Windows install and boot successfully on the same drive. So, I'll try to hit up the same fixes that the other posters mentioned and try to report back.

I found a solution. BetaFlux has a video on youtube called "Repair your Blue Screen, My PC will not start." which goes through a step by step process of repairing your computer. At about 8:02 minutes into the video he tells you to restart your computer. BEFORE YOU DO THAT YOU MUST BACKUP THE DATA ONTO THE GOOD HARD DRIVE FROM THE DAMAGED HARD DRIVE or else you risk losing all the information.
