16 bit Windows Subsystem error

Hi,
Please help.
I am currently getting the following error when I try to load cd-roms into my dell dimension 2100.

16 bit Windows Subsystem

C:/windows/system32/autoexec.nt
Not suitible for running MS-DOS and microsoft applications.

I have tried the various "fixes" on the other threads and none have workder so far. Is there anything else I can do?

Dear Lynoc,

Refer to this document and follow the steps.

About 99% of the time this is caused by a spyware infection.

You want to run Adaware, Spybot, and Housecall to try to clean up the infection as well.  You can get Adaware and spybot from www.download.com and Housecall is http://housecall.trendmicro.com

Well can you give me so more information, for example what Operating System (I'm assuming Windows XP) also a couple of questions for you ?

Does it happen to all cds ? Because if the program for example you are trying to install is an old game say in dos it will give that error.

Also, are you able to download a program from the internet and run/install it ? That would narrow the program down, ie. is it only with cds or maybe it has to do with the windows installer on your computer.

Something else you can try,

click Start, then Run, then type in "sfc /scannow", then click ok.  It may prompt you to insert your windows xp cd and do so.  This should take about 15 minutes.  This will check all your system files to see if anything is damaged and will replace them from the windows xp cd.  Note: you will not loose any information.

Also if it just seems to be a cd-rom problem you might want to uninstall your burning software... that can sometimes interfere, just make sure you have the cd to reinstall it back on with.

Another thing you can try, if both downloading and cds aren't working is downloading the windows installer program again.  You can do it from here : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=889482FC-5F56-4A38-B838-DE776FD4138C&displaylang=en

If you provide me with some more information I can try to suggest some more ideas.  The ones above are a good starting point though.

HI, Yes it is an xp.

Its not all cds. Music cds and dvds work, but the likes of ulead photo systems or ecdl disks wont work. I can download files from the internet no problem. I have tried the  "sfc /scannow and nothing comes up!
