2 Dell computers unable to run Windows updates

Have Vostro 230 Desktop Windows 7 32 bit and a Vostro V131 Laptop Windows 7 64 bit that are not able to run Windows updates.  When I got to Windows update, and click on Check for updates, I get the following message

"Windows Update cannot currently check for udpates, because the services is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

Check services, and both are set on Windows updates is set to Automatiic (Delayed Started) and running.  Restarted the service, reboot the system, same error.  Googled online and it seems to have something to do w/ Intel Matrix Storage Manager, but I don't even see such software installed on either computer.

Have many Dell computers in the network that are Windows 7 and don't have this issue.

Any advice and suggestion is greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Roget168,

Sounds like you work for a business.

I would first try running the diagnostics and see if there are any error messages. How to Run the Dell™ Diagnostics Utility

If everything passes, then backup all the files and folders and try reinstalling the operating system. It sounds like some files became missing or corrupt. You could try inserting the Windows disk and stop it from running.

Start, all programs, accessories, right click on command promts, left click run as administrator. Type

sfc /scannow          (space between the c and /)

Hit enter. This will replace any missing or corrupt Windows files.

Most of the time people run this, it sometimes cannot replace some files.

Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings using the factory image or

The manual method is How To Restore or Reinstall Microsoft® Windows® on a Dell™ Computer
