32-bit 64-bit problem
I recently bought a laptop with 4 GB of ram. I just figured out that my 32-bit system can only use 2.96 GB of it. Is it possible to get a 64-bit OS from Dell if the computer is still in warranty?
PS: I installed the Windows 7 RC since I am eligible for the Windows 7 Upgrade and wanted to know how the new OS felt. I really love it, but am now wondering if the Windows 7 Upgrade (that I should be getting when it comes out) could be changed to a 64-bit OS...

You didn't mention the model that you are using, so no direct info can be given. You should, however, be familiar with this page from Microsoft before you make any expenditure: System Info Reports Less than Installed Amount of RAM.
The short version is that, in addition to a 64 bit OS, you need hardware that will support re-mapping of the memory located in the 3 GB to 4 GB range to addresses above the 4 GB boundary. Only later model laptops are likely to have the chipsets that will support this re-mapping.

Sorry, Studio 1737. And I just called up Tech Support and the guy told me that Flash doesn't work with 64-bit. I use YouTube a lot! Now starting to question whether it's worth it or not.

If you use the Upgrade disk as a true upgrade then since you are running a 32 bit OS it will upgrade the 32 bit version. If you want to switch to a 64 bit version you will have to do a clean install win 7.

Raints,
I think the upgrade is for the operating system that was shipped with the computer.
WHATTT???
Flash does NOT work with 64-bit!!!
That is sort of correct. 64-bit systems have two versions of Internet Explorer. If you go to start, in search type int
You'll see two different versions of Internet Explorer. Use the one that dor NOT have (64-bit) after it. This will be the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer. Supports flash and everything else.
The 1737 Vista Home Premium 32-bit supports 4gb SHARED memory. It can be shared with audio, video, etc.. Installing 64-bit on this computer, up to 8gb, is the most you can install.
I haven found a cheap place to purchase two 4gb memory cards for this computer as the ones I found seem to be expensive. Dell ships the computers with an upgrade of memory that is cheaper, if only the offered this on their website.
