32-bit Vista and 64-bit Processor

A short while ago I bought a new Dimension E521 with an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ processor. However, the computer came pre-installed with a 32-bit version of Vista Home Premium. I've not had any issues related to this however I'm sure it cannot be correct. So: 1. Am I losing 32-bits of processing power? 2. If so am I entitled to a 64-bit version of Vista? 3. And if so how do I go about getting it? Thanks for your help.

Edit your E 521 will run Vista 64 bit just fine if you have 1 or 2 gigs of ram or more.
I am running Vista 64 bit Business on mine now .
If i remember right all of the drivers are there for it !
Good Luck

My PC is also 64 bit capable but I'm using the 32 bit version.

If you want the 64 bit version you will have to buy that as the OEM versions are 32 bits.

However, there can be issues finding drivers and applications that use the full 64 bits so do your "homework" before diving into 64 bit.

Ok thanks. I'm not really willing to pay an extra $100 or so just for a 64-bit version. So let me just check - I'm not losing any processing power at all through having the 32-bit version of vista?

I have not run a desktop os in 64 bit,but have run server os's in 64 bit, linux fedora core 6,and longhorn windows server 2008,and have not seen any gain in performance over 32 bit.
