926 AIO Printer will not communicate with Vista

I purchased a Dimension E520 with Vista about a month ago.  With the PC I purchased a Dell All In One 926 printer, special deal on the price.  The PC and printer have never successfully communicated in any way.  I have reloaded drivers twice myself, including earlier this evening.  I have spent an hour and 25 minutes with customer support in India, they down loaded drivers without success.  They also promised to call me back the next day and did not.  They called me 5 days later and made another appointment to call me the next day, and did not.

I am at my wits end.  This PC is nice but if I cannot print from it my kids cannot do homework.

This is crazy, I spent $79 on the printer and hundreds of dollars in my own time and still frustrated.

I can't be the only person in this situation, any help?

Thanks.

This is the link to the Dell drivers for Vista 32bit.  The XP drivers will not work and are incompatible (probably what you got with the unit).   Click Me

Another issue, how are you installing the unit?  You must first run the install program and ONLY when the install program tells you then physically connect the unit to the PC.  If you connect it first either wrong drivers will be installed or it will not install at all.

Reboot into safe mode, rename the

c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86

folder, and uninstall and reinstall the printer driver. Also disable/uninstall any firewalls you may have on that system.

You are not the only person!!!!   Instead of looking under Vista Forum, look under Printers, Inkjet.
The listings are endless!!!  I to purchased A AIO 926 with my Inspiron E1505 and have had problems.  I also purchased a Dell 3300 Adapter which also has compability problems, Dell is still working on this per Gina-Dell.  She has told me to change the compability to XP until the issue with the Adapter is resolved.   Don't you think they should have told us when we bought the printers that it was not compatible???  I had so many problems with my printer and adapter.  on the phone for days until 1:30 am with the Dell Techs.  Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

Don't feel bad...I spent $2,000 on the entire system and a lot of the programs I had on my other Dell laptop running XP will not work in Vista.

Make sure you do what penguinspenguins said.  A lot of others on the forum also said to delete everything in the folder because it still had the old drivers.  c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86

Also waht fireberd said about following the instructions to a T do not connect the usb to your computer until the directions tell you to.

Good Luck

I have spent months with similar issues on the Dell 926 printer.  I am not happy with it.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, scanned for viruses and trojans, used
an optimizer and registry cleaner, reinstalled windows vista also and even upgraded RAM amount on the Inspiron 1501, it is connected to and still cannot figure out what is up with it.

It has not happended to me before, with a Dell product but I truly believe at this point the printer is
absolute trash.  I was considering sending it back to Dell even if I do not get
a replacement and have to go buy one of my own and request that they recall the product as defective.  I truly feel your pain!
