If the system was working good prior to this then I suspect it isn't BIOS related. If it were BIOS related you would have had a problem right from the start. If you're in doubt, you can upgrade the BIOS to the latest version which is A05 and see what happens. That version can be found by
clicking here. Since it would appear the problem appeared after the system was in use it maybe related to the operating system or hardware. I would try posting your problem over in the
Software - Windows XP forum to see what opinions you get there from an OS perspective.

might go into the setup program and see if ACPI is enabled
otherwise, i would flash the bios to latest version, re-install windows xp , and make sue acpi is enabled
