Active Windows problems

Hi, I just installed Service Pack II, and I'm getting used to the quirks.  One thing that is driving me up the wall is related to the "active window."  I notice this when I'm using the internet, I don't know if it is present in other programs.  When I am working within a given window, if I have scrolled or clicked anything within a few seconds, the window ceases to be the "active" window.  I have to re-select it before I can proceed.  (It actually just happened now, as I was typing this message).  I'm constantly have to click on the window to keep it active.  I don't know what purpose this feature serves, but is there someway to shut it off?

This is not a feature of SP2 by any means.

Have you checked for spyware, etc?

Something is robbing the active window of it's focus.

It started precisely when I installed SP2.  I've run Hijack This before and posted it to a different board on this forum.  I don't see that much different - this looks weird:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{1341D096-70C1-4B16-9A28-D2CAEA73FF06}: NameServer = 207.69.188.187 207.69.188.186

That's your ISP, Earthlink

I also see that Symantec's Adblocker installed itself: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll

As well as Real, MusicMatch, and other programs I had uninstalled through Hijack this -- boy this is annoying.

Do not uninstall programs with HJT. Uninstall them thruogh Add/Remove programs. Or, if you mean disable them from starting up, use MSCONFIG if you must: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

Thank you for the msconfig.  But, anyone have any idea on the active windows thing?  It happens constantly -- and it did occur right when I installed SP2.  Could something be trying to access the internet?

I'm having the same problem with the active window losing its focus.  Running Earthlink 2005 and recently added SP2.  How do I fix this?

Well, I used the MSConfig method to stop auto-update programs from launching  -- like Quicktime.  The problem stopped.  I think that these programs kept trying to get through, and couldn't with the firewalls.

That's quite likely. There's no reason for programs like Quicktime to have to start at Windows startup (unless you actually want them too).
